LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
I will have the honor of traveling with 14 other NCJW/Cleveland women to Washington, DC this month to attend NCJW Washington Institute. Held every three years, the Washington Institute brings together women throughout the country, from all of the NCJW affiliates, to learn about our most pressing initiatives and to experience the dynamic energy of the Nation's capital as we take our message to Congress.
Given today's political landscape with chronic gridlock in Washington and an endless torrent of attacks on women's reproductive freedom, rights, and dignity, we have our work cut out for us.
The issues we care about - from voting rights to judicial nominations to reproductive justice and from religious liberty to racism to economic inequality - are at stake in the 2016 elections!
Of course, inspirational speakers, networking, and forging lasting friendships among our Cleveland delegates make Washington Institute an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
As we come together in our Nation's capital, we will stand proud representing one of the oldest and largest NCJW sections in the country, knowing that what we have accomplished in Cleveland not only enhances NCJW nationally, but also motivates us locally to continue to be the forerunner in innovation and leadership.

ADVOCACY

Many of the Advocacy committees held big events last month. Join one of the following committees to build on this important work! Contact the chair of the committee that matches your passion!
Focus on Foster Care
Help foster kids who are aging out of the system by exploring housing options for those who are homeless, enhancing the self-esteem program, developing activities for the Sullivan-Deckard Scholars, or becoming part of The Open Table to mentor a person who has aged out.
STOP Human Trafficking
Help raise awareness of the scourge of human trafficking in our community as well as of the need to provide adequate services for victims. Participate in outreach campaigns, training and other awareness activities, advocacy for stronger laws in Ohio, and supporting partner organizations. Women's Reproductive Justice
Keep abreast of legislation in Ohio concerning women's health care and educate NCJW members. Also help plan a Candidates' Night with other Advocacy committees to inform attendees of a candidate's stance on various issues before it's time to vote. Understanding the Issues

Learn and work with this city-wide, faith-based organization to promote the issue of reducing gun violence in our community. For

THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA (or HOW TO BECOME A JOURNALIST!)
Question
: What's the best and easiest way to tell friends about NCJW's compelling activities, strong points of view, and impressive volunteer opportunities?
Answer:
Social media.
To take advantage of our organization's power in numbers (one of the chief strengths of NCJW/Cleveland), I urge each of us to take four easy steps:

"Like" individual comments on the Facebook page.
3)
Visit the page weekly (put it on your calendar) and simply click the "like" icon on the comments you like.
4)
"Share" the NCJW messages that you like on your own Facebook pages by clicking the "Share" icon.
With these easy steps, you are becoming today's "journalist." And if you're going for a Pulitzer Prize, take a fifth step -- add a comment about the post you're sharing on your Facebook page.
With these easy actions, you have earned a position on the NCJW Communications Committee. (And no, you don't have to come to any meetings!)

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Operation Warm Up was a "toasty" success this year! Here it is by the numbers:
- 30 bins were placed at 30 sites around town.
- 25 NCJW volunteers collected the bins containing 2,172 items - 600 more than last year and of better quality as well.
- Volunteers from Horvitz YouthAbility and Safely Home sorted the donated items, which were taken to the Homeless Stand Down, a community-wide effort held downtown in January, where 20 NCJW volunteers assisted in distributing the items.
Thanks to the volunteer committee and our partners, HandsOn Northeast Ohio and Horvitz YouthAbility for performing a very successful "Operation."

DIGNITTY KNITTERS
Our busy knitters work tirelessly, meeting every week, to provide many agencies with knitted goods, such as warm clothing, blankets, and comfort toys for families in need. They welcome

w members and will even teach you to knit! Needles and yarn are provided if needed.

SHARE WHAT YOU WEAR
If you know a teen who wants to start making a difference, tell them about NCJW/Cleveland's Share What You Wear program. Our program engages teens in aiding their peers who are in need of clothing and school supplies to start off the school year in a positive way! We collect gently used clothing and school supplies all year in anticipation of the big August event! The Fund Development committee continues efforts to increase donations to support NCJW/Cleveland programs. Big or small, every donation is put to great use as evidenced by the long standing as well as new projects undertaken by our volunteers.
A recent letter was sent to past donors who have not yet make a donation this fiscal year. We hope that if you have not yet had a chance to support our annual campaign, you will make the decision to do so and contact the NCJW office, 216 -378-2204, ext. 101. Learn about Gustav Klimt and create your own dazzling Klimt masterpiece with step-by-step instruction and high-quality art supplies! An overview of the featured artist is followed by a 90-minute workshop.

SHAKER HISTORICAL SOCIETY GUIDED TOUR
Join us for a docent-led tour of artifacts, documents and photographs pertaining to Shaker H
eights. You'll learn about the interesting legacy of the Shakers and the fascinating history of the Van Sweringens' development of Shaker Heights as a model suburb. Also on display (for a limited time) is an exhibit of pastel and mixed-media artwork by our own NCJW member Leslye Arian. Come celebrate and engage in the story of Shaker Heights!
