PARK AVENUE ENHANCEMENT - Spring 2016
The brown is the Stabilized DG (decomposed granite) path, the center line is marked yellow.  There will be a 5' bike lanes on both sides of the road and will be striped.   The overall roadway will not be improved with this Enhancement Grant, except in a couple of small areas to improve the bike lane.
Gary Wittwer, TDOT manager of Park Avenue Enhancement,  reports " We have received the Federal funding approval from the State and are working on sending the construction documents to the City Procurement Department. That should happen within the next two weeks. The Procurement Department will put the project out to bid in approximately 90 days. The bidding process will take 30-46 days. Once a contractor has been awarded the project, the City will host a Pre-Construction Public Meeting to introduce the contractor and present the construction schedule. We estimate construction to begin in early spring of 2016."
The project will have enhanced pedestrian walkways, some landscaping and bike lanes.  No roadway improvements.
GRANT RD -  Many Turn Out for the Meeting with City Engineers
The Ward III meeting room was full Sept 29.  Many neighbors wanted to know what was planned for the north side of the neighborhood.  PSOMAS presented the final plans for the basin.  Click here to see the images of the basin which is to be built from Hampton to Park.  Jefferson Park, SAMOS, and Catalina Vista were in attendance, all asking questions:
1) Will the city pay for the closure of Hampton?  Hampton neighbors are even now reporting much traffic cut-through. A petition has been submitted to the city.
2)  Will the project provide for sound and visual mitigation for the homes left exposed to the roadway - walls?
3)  What has the noise study shown for our segment? Could we have the noise engineer speak with the affected neighborhoods?
GRANT RD - New  website for the Grant Rd Coalition - Central Segments
Jefferson Park NA, SAMOS NA, and Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc. are contributing to the cost of a new new website to keep everyone informed of the  coalition's efforts to secure the most resident-friendly borders on Grant Road.  Minutes of the meetings between the City and the Coalition will be posted there as well as images relative to our segment.  It is a work in progress. www.grantroadcoalition.com

Did you know that you can receive help with pruning large trees in the right-of-ways? When we do improvements in the public easements beside our houses, the City maintenance agreement  commits us to do the basic weeding and pruning, but the Department of Transportation will send out help for bigger issues, such as removing the large dead Allepo pines.
