35-story and 22-story residential towers coming downtown towers

David A. Mack Properties, LLC, has proposed a 35-story tower with 306 apartment units, 8,834 SF of commercial space, and 505 parking spaces for the former Grand Bohemian Hotel site located on the northwest corner of 1st Avenue North and 2nd Street, across from Jannus Landing. The site was purchased in late September for $8.75 million. After receiving approval from the city and the Federal Aviation Authority, construction is expected to begin by the end of 2016.

A second luxury apartment tower will be built across from the Publix shopping center on 3rd Street South. American Land Ventures plans for a 22-story, 210 unit tower on the northern half of the block between 3rd and 4th Streets South and 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Construction should begin late 2016.
Regus signs full floor lease in First Central Tower first

Global workplace provider Regus has leased a full floor, or 15,296 SF, in downtown's First Central Tower located on Central Avenue and 4th Street South. By offering small, shared office space, Regus will provide an opportunity for more start-ups and smaller businesses to be downtown.

This lease marks the third major deal for Feldman Equities, which acquired the tower last year. Earlier this year,
Twinlab Consolidation Corporation leased two floors and Banker Lopez Gassler PA leased a floor. 
The 17-story office building is currently undergoing an extensive renovation, which should be completed early 2016. "We are investing $10 million in capital and tenant improvements. Our goal is to transform First Central Tower into a first class office destination," states Larry Feldman, CEO of Feldman Equities.
City sees 55% increase in construction value in FY16 YTD permit

During the first quarter of FY16, St. Petersburg experienced a 55% increase in construction values compared to a year earlier. Additionally, there has been an 11% increase in number of permits issued and a 38% increase in total revenue over FY15 year-to-date.
3rd Annual Localtopia returns February 6, 2016 local


Keep St. Pete Local, which celebrated its 4th anniversary in November, will host the 3rd Annual Localtopia - a community celebration of all things local - on Saturday, February 6 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Nearly 200 independent businesses and community organizations will set up in Williams Park for the event, which is anticipated to attract nearly 20,000 attendees.

Keep St. Pete Local is a non-profit affiliated with the American Independent Business Alliance, joining approximately 600 local, independent business owners to built a thriving local economy and unique community. The group, founded in November 2011, sponsors events such as Localtopia, connects businesses, and spreads local news and job opportunities.

Two new Blue Chip sites added blue

Two new sites have been added to the city's Blue Chip database:
  1. 3049 6th Street South - 14.83 acres located north of 32nd Avenue S between 6th and Dr. MLK Jr. Street, zoned Neighborhood Suburban Multifamily-1 (NSM-1) with frontage on 6th Street S zoned Corridor Commercial Traditional-1 (CCT), price negotiable.
     
  2. 1501 72nd Street North - 29 acres located across from Tyrone Square Mall and adjacent to Azalea Park, zoned Industrial Suburban (IS), $13.25 million.
Blue Chip is a city-developed online service highlighting prime sites, currently listed for sale by real estate brokerage services, to attract developers and investors. The database is updated on a quarterly cycle for accuracy and validity. Blue Chip allows viewers to select prime sites for display by either land acreage or zoning designation via a Google Map.

Currently, 13 properties are listed totaling 144 acres valued at well over $60 million.
Commercial service returns to Albert Whitted with seaplane charter service to Fort Lauderdale airplane

Florida-based Tropic Ocean Airways will begin offering scheduled, commercial airline service from downtown St. Petersburg's Albert Whitted Airport to Fort Lauderdale starting February 1, 2016. From Fort Lauderdale, continuing service will be available to The Bahamas. The service will operate twice-weekly, on Monday and Friday, with two flights per day.

"I believe the new service from Albert Whitted Airport to Fort Lauderdale will be welcomed by the residents of St. Petersburg and the surrounding area. It will open up access to The Bahamas through our regular service connections from Fort Lauderdale Airport," said Rob Ceravolo, Tropic Ocean Airways CEO. The company maintains three seaplanes and a private jet that land in tropical destinations typically only accessible by boat or helicopter.
St. Pete receives perfect score of 100 on LGBT index lgbt

St. Petersburg received a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2015 Municipal Equality Index. The report scores cities according to non-discrimination laws, employment policies, inclusiveness of city services, law enforcement, and municipal leadership on matters of equality. Of the 408 cities examined, 47 achieved perfect scores.
