MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
11/6/2015

Greetings Countryside Families!

2-Hour Late start - Wednesday, November 11
To provide a time dedicated to the learning of our Edina school staff, Edina Public Schools has a late start on Wednesday, November 11.  All schools will start two hours later than usual; busses will likewise run two hours later than usual that morning.  Dismissal times and afternoon bus routes will remain the same.

Countryside Bash - What a Fabulous Event!
On October 24 th our fabulous Countryside PTO hosted our fourth annual parent event - the Countryside Bash.  I attended this fun-filled evening, along with many of our Countryside staff members.   A big "Thank You" goes out to the Planning Committee and our Countryside PTO for hosting such a wonderful event.  It was great to see so many parents and guests participate.  Please know that your support for our Countryside school and students is so very much appreciated.  The funds raised that evening - and throughout the school year - provide so many opportunities for our students.  I feel blessed to be a part of this school community and I know that contributions to events such as this make Countryside the fabulous place that it is.  Thank you!

Conferences Coming Up
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for all day on Monday, Nov. 23.  In addition, each teacher will be scheduling some additional hours in next few weeks.  Please consult specific schedules that are being sent to you by your child's classroom teacher.

Dressing for Minnesota Weather
With our unpredictable fall/winter weather upon us, I would like to remind students that they should come dressed appropriately for changing weather conditions.  Students will go outside for noon recess unless it is raining or the temperature or wind chill is below zero (BRRRR, let's hope that doesn't happen for a while).

Turkey Bingo Prizes Needed - Nov. 20
Our 12 th Annual Turkey Bingo event is coming up at 2:45 on Friday, November 20 th and we are always in need of more prizes.  We need to make sure that there is at least one prize for every student at Countryside!   If you have anything you can donate, that would be awesome!  We are looking for little trinkets, candy, toys, whatever you think kids might enjoy!  Remember - one child's junk is another's treasure!  Any donations should be sent to school and teachers will route them to our collection point.  Thank you in advance and Gobble, Gobble!

Media Classes
The school library media center plays an important role in creating a culture of literacy and supporting the development of reading skills. Since the beginning of the school year all students have been engage in activities to support reading as a lifelong practice. Characteristics of lifelong readers include the ability to select reading material, dedicate time to read, create a reading plan, and share with other readers.
Kindergarten students have been learning about and thinking about checking out fiction or nonfiction books.
First and Second Grade students have been learning about choosing a just right book and their purpose for selecting a book: to answer a question or find a fact, learn a skill, interest in a subject or to read for fun.
Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade students have been practicing typing using the online program Typing Pal. Students can login to Typing Pal from any computer at school or home. The Typing Pal link is on the Countryside website's Home page under the Quick Links heading. Students use their school username and password to login. In addition, students are personalizing their reading plans using MyQuest in Destiny Quest, library catalog.
