Dumont Council votes 5-1 to develop D'Angelo Farms, Borough Hall land
Over the objections of residents who railed for more than three hours Tuesday night against a developer's proposal to build on the D'Angelo Farms and existing Borough Hall properties, the Dumont Council, in a 5-1 vote, approved a settlement agreement that paves the way for 142 new apartments and ends a years-long "builder's remedy" lawsuit against the borough. Multimillion-dollar home sales on the rise in North Jersey
In a sign that wealthy households may be spending more freely, a dozen houses sold for more than $4 million in Bergen County in 2015 - up from eight the previous year. The priciest sale in North Jersey in 2015 was the $13.9 million sale of an Alpine home to comedian Tracy Morgan, who bought the Rio Vista Drive manor in the name of a trust. The second most expensive sale was another Alpine home, on Buckingham Drive, which sold for $11 million. READ MORE
Study: Renting continues to grow in suburbs
The growing demand for rentals is changing the face of development in New Jersey. Last year, about 31,000 housing units were started in the state, up 10 percent from the previous year. Of those, more than two-thirds were multifamily units - a major shift from the single-family suburban development patterns that shaped much of the state's character after World War II. READ MORE

Why Your Home Buyers Really Need to Hurry
Home buyers are expected to outnumber home sellers this spring, which likely will drive up asking prices, Lawrence Yun, the chief economist for the National Association of REALTORS®, told The Wall Street Journal. Nationwide, the median price for an existing single-family home in January was $213,800 - up 8.2 percent just from a year ago, according to NAR's housing data. Home prices are moving at the highest rate since April 2015. READ MORE

Hispanic home-ownership on the rise
For the first time since 2009, the Hispanic homeownership rate and the number of owned Hispanic households increased, while overall homeownership rates in the U.S. decreased for the 12th time, according to data from the State of Hispanic Homeownership Report put out by the Hispanic Wealth Project and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals. The EB-5 Program: What Foreign Investors Should Consider
In the U.S. EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, a foreign investor commits a certain amount of capital to a project that will create or preserve a minimum of 10 full-time jobs for American workers. Successful participation in the program secures a green card for the investor, as well as his or her spouse and any unmarried children age 21 or younger. Unlike other paths to U.S. residency, the EB-5 program does not include requirements relating to age, business experience or language skills. Instead, it encourages foreign investors with an interest in residency to take steps that Congress has determined will help the U.S. economy to grow. READ MORE

HUD STREAMLINES RENT REGULATIONS
In an effort to reduce the administrative burden on state and local governments, public housing authorities and private owners of HUD-assisted multifamily properties, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today posted on its website for advanced review a forthcoming new rule to ease its regulatory requirements under a number of the Department's programs. FTC Consumer Blog addresses Mortgage Phishing Scam 
On March 18 the FTC Consumer Blog issued a post focused on hackers who have been breaking into some consumers' and real estate professionals' email accounts to get information about upcoming real estate transactions. After figuring out the closing dates, the hacker sends an email to the buyer, posing as the real estate professional or title company. READ MORE
