The Philanthropic Advisor
MARCH 2016

We know that your clients depend on you for sound professional advice - you are their trusted expert in many areas. When it comes to charitable decision making and strategic philanthropy, Toronto Foundation can be your trusted partner in helping to support your clients with those goals.

As you can see, the format of the Philanthropic Advisor has changed a little. We want to make it easy for you to stay on top of relevant news, regulation changes, and learning opportunities.

As always, we love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out, ask questions, and help us better understand your specific needs.

With best wishes,
Anne Brayley
Vice-President, Philanthropic Services

Sit on a selection committee
Professional Advisors Lucinda (Lucy) Main of Beard Winter LLP and Nicole Woodward of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP recently sat on Toronto Foundation Selection Committees that allocate funding for our strategic grant streams. Both felt it was a valuable learning opportunity and left better equipped to advise their clients on philanthropic matters.

Want to sit on a Selection Committee too?

Just let us know.

Significant tax changes anticipated
The charitable  sector is anticipating significant tax changes for the donation of private company shares and real estate in the upcoming Federal Budget. Keep Toronto Foundation in mind as an opportunity for your clients to take advantage of the tax benefit right away and still take their time to make impactful donation decisions.  Get in touch with us  to discuss how we can help.
The best way to evaluate a charity

Charity overhead is a hot button issue in the sector. PwC recently published a discussion paper that dispels the myth that overhead ratios are the best way to evaluate a charity's effectiveness and provides alternative factors for donors to consider. This is a great opportunity and resource to use in discussions of strategic giving with your clients.
