WE'RE ASKING MEN IN SPORTS:
How can we, as females in sports, better come alongside you in your role that brings glory to God and works for the good of His kingdom on earth?
From a High School Football Coach:
It's difficult to talk to women who want to talk to me as a coach. I want them to know they are important to me, but they need to understand the timing at which they talk with me and how they talk with me is important. Discernment is key. I do not have enough time in the day to accomplish everything needed to be done but do my best while keeping my wife, family and their son or daughter first. They should guard their thoughts and speech when it is negative towards me or my decision making in front of their son or daughter. Pray for me as I lead these athletes. It is difficult knowing I have many young eyes looking up to me, and I desire to coach them to be the successful young men and women we all want them to be.
How eye-opening and helpful this is. For a mom talking to a coach of her son or daughter, timing and attitude is so important. There is a lot on a coach's plate, including his own family. He's planning, preparing, and on the road a lot during a sports season. Wait to approach him about an issue at the proper time whether in person, over the phone, or in writing.
A coach loves what he does if he's chosen to be a coach. He won't be perfect at it. He desires to do the best he knows to do even if it could be done better. Respect that position. Let him coach our sons and daughters. If we see an area we think he could improve on or should know about, and desire to try to help him be the best he can be, approach him with a humble and gentle attitude rather than as a coach ourselves.
Also, it is good for our sons and daughters to go through some tough experiences with their coach (or even teachers) as it teaches them how to handle tough situations that will come their way throughout life.
