The Student Council is hosting a bake sale each Wednesday in March during high school lunch to raise funds for the $500 Student Council Leadership Scholarship given to the ELCA senior selected by the administration from all submitted applications. Mark your calendar for March 23 and 30! All items are $1.

Congratulations to eighth grader, Ashlyn Donaldson, who earned first place at the 4-H Northwest Junior/Senior District Project in the area of Forestry, Resources and Wood Science.
Henry County 7th through 12th grade 4-H
'
ers competed against 37 counties at the 4-H Northwest Junior/Senior District Project Achievement, March 4-6. There were 317 seventh and eighth graders and 358 ninth through twelfth graders for a total of 675 Northwest District 4-
H'ers that competed during the weekend.
These young people were given the opportunity to select a project area or category of their choice ranging from Health to Science of Engineering & Mechanics all the way to Food Labs and Performing Arts. Each member created a yearlong portfolio to be judged displaying all of their work in their project area, as well as school, community service and leadership activities they have completed over the past year. Then during the weekend the 4-
H'er
s were judged on their presentation or performance. Those that competed in categories such as Science of Engineering, Outdoor Recreation & History created a presentation using visual aids and gave a speech. Read more.

ELCA Celebrates "Pi" Day
Middle and high school students celebrated Pi Day, March 14, which is also the birthday of Albert Einstein, by dressing as nerdy geeks. There were prizes for the 'best dressed' in each grade.
Sixth grade winners were Jimmy Mattaden and Sophie Fowler, Ella Smith won for seventh grade and Ashlyn Donaldson was the winner for eighth grade.
The freshman winner was India Bellamy, the sophomore winner was Gabrielle Luidens, junior winner was Brittany Baikie and the senior winner was Christopher Lightsey. The overall high school winner was India Bellamy who received a $20 Chick-fil-a gift card and a small pie.

CHESS NUTS
Chess Club is played every Tuesday after school during second and third quarter. Approximately 25 students participated this year, averaging around 15 students per meeting. The students choose to play either unofficial games (just for fun) or official games. The student with the most official game wins at the end of February receives the "Chess Club Champ" trophy. This year Justice Ray won the trophy by winning eleven official games. Micah Gonzales came in second place, winning nine games.

MATH OLYMPICS

The following 3rd - 8th grade students placed in computation and reasoning categories:
Thirty-five ELCA students participated in the Math Olympics. Those students won 22 ribbons. Four of those 22 students also won medals.

Twenty-two students are currently in the Florida Keys at Sea Camp. This biology-focused academic trip has had students snorkeling the Florida Reef, which is the 3rd largest reef in the world. They have conducted experiments on jellyfish and different types of algae. Other activities have included collecting all sorts of ocean animals and learning about mangroves. They will return tomorrow.
Pray for students who will be traveling over Spring Break. Just around the corner will be the departure of the Alaska, Jamaica and Honduras teams to share the love of Christ around the world. Other students will be visiting Washington DC, San Diego and Italy on academic trips.

ART WITH A MISSION
Several of the Art students in the NJAHS (National Junior Art Honor Society), NAHS (National Art Honor Society), and Mrs. Batchelor's Accountability Group participated in the "Memory Project Portraits of Kindness."
The completed portraits will be sent to these children living in Bolivia. Most of "the children live in a particularly challenged area on the outskirts of a city, where families live in one room homes with dirt floors and walls of sheet metal."

The Henry Arts Alliance, along with the Visual Arts Collective, sponsors the Annual High School Art
Contest. Students, under the guidance of their art teachers, produce pieces that are judged
by member artists from the Visual Arts Collective.

CARE TO DANCE? ALEXIS AMEY DOES!
Sixth Grader, Alexis Amey was selected to perform in the Atlanta Ballet's production of Sleeping Beauty in February. The cast performed community shows for students in Cobb and Fulton County during the days leading up to the production.

The first Wednesday in February represents a big day for a lot of high school student athletes around the country and ELCA is not short on big accomplishments by its student athletes.
Four ELCA Students signed their national letter of intent to attend college and participate in college athletics.

ELCA State Wrestling Results
On Friday & Saturday, 2/12 & 2/13/16, the ELCA varsity Wrestling Team competed in the GHSA State wrestling tournament held at the
Infinite Energy Arena
.
The following wrestlers placed for the Chargers.
Andy Meyer at 113lbs., Dalton Hardeman at 170lbs., Harrison Taylor at 195lbs., & Brayden Rush at 220lbs. each earned 4th place.
Trent Johnson at 138lbs. earned 3rd place, making him the first 4x state placer in ELCA wrestling history.
The team finished in 7th place out of all Single A schools. (2nd out of private Single A schools).

Discovery Volleyball Camp offers a fun, volleyball environment, where the main focus is building strong fundamentals under positive instruction. Individual skill-work that is taught includes: passing, setting, serving, hitting, defense and blocking, game situations and daily competitions! No prior experience is necessary for this camp. Students will be divided by age and talent level to ensure each player is receiving the best experience possible.

Class of 2013 Alumnus Isaac Rochell recently enjoyed his spring break from Notre Dame, but not in the way many college students might.
Last fall, Isaac reached out to several of his mentors connected with ELCA and asked for help in funding a Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic. "In a time when most college kids spend their spring breaks partying in Cancun, I was amazed this young man still had a calling to help others.
I'm proud to call him a friend...but I know (ELCA is) proud to have contributed to the man he has become. He's a poster child for Kingdom Education." ~

is one of the biggest PTF fundraising events of the year and we need as many parents as possible to volunteer to help that afternoon.
UNIFORM RESALE
Our final End of Year Uniform Resale will be held on June 1st from 7:30AM until Noon. This is a great opportunity to get a great deal on uniforms for next year.
We need workers to help sort, fold, sell, etc.
Volunteers are needed to set up on Tuesday, 5/31 and to run the sale and clean up on Wednesday, 6/1.

Relay for Life is just around the corner...
Friday, April 22nd, 7:00PM at Hampton High School
The date is Friday, April 22,
at Hampton High School at 7:00 p.m. It is best to get there early, though. It runs until 2:00AM because we know cancer doesn't sleep!!
There are lots of ways that you can get involved.
2. You can purchase a luminaria in honor or in memory of a loved one. These will be displayed the night of Relay around the track.
3. If you or anyone you know is a survivor, please complete the attached form and give it to Laura Farr or e-mail it in. You are the reason we Relay!
We want to recognize all the survivors we can. The Survivor Dinner is provided free to the survivors and one other guest. Shane's Rib Shack provides this meal at Hampton High School. The dinner starts at 5:30 pm.
