On March 15th we held a project blessing in Laurel. Our future homeowner, Shyde, Habitat staff, AmeriCorps members, and Councilman Jonathan Kellam, were there as we blessed the project, broke ground, and prayed for a successful build. Executive Director, Kevin Gilmore, asked those present to take a moment to envision the house finished with Shyde and her two little ones living there. Congratulations, Shyde! We look forward to this journey together.

Students from Gannon University's
Center for Social Concern kicked off our
Collegiate Challenge! Inspired by Catholic social teaching, the center empowers students to make community service, education for peace and justice, and civic engagement for social change an integral part of their education. This particular group took advantage of the center's Alternative Break Service Trip (ABST) offering. They traveled from Erie, PA and were hosted by St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Laurel. They served alongside AmeriCorps service members, Habitat for Humanity staffers, and other volunteers at a build site in Seaford, DE. When they arrived only the foundation was in place, but when they left they were quite proud that they had framed the entire home and begun to bring it under roof.
Last week three additional groups took up the Collegiate Challenge! Students from
Husson and
Kutztown Universities as well as
Assumption College continued work on the build site in Seaford. (The Husson students also had an opportunity to work on a repair site in Lincoln.) These groups were also hosted by St. Phillips for the week, and enjoyed sharing a potluck dinner at their soup kitchen last Wednesday
evening.
This week the build continued with two more Collegiate Challengers from University of Saint Joseph and Suffolk University. Wow! That's great progress!
We think they all did a great job, don't you? Thanks to all of you for taking the challenge with us! Thank you to St Phillips for your great hospitality to all our Challengers!

Over the next four months we will be hosting hundreds of volunteers from colleges, universities, churches, and businesses from near and far.
We are looking for skilled construction volunteers who can serve with us by leading other volunteers of all skill levels on our build sites.
Crew Leader: Lead volunteers to complete a specific task on a build site. One day minimum commitment.
Site Leader: Lead volunteers for an entire week on a particular site.
Site Supervisor Loan Program: If you own a construction company, please consider loaning a skilled site supervisor to help us run a site for a week during one of our busiest volunteer seasons.

We are still in need of a reliable work vehicle for use by our construction crew. If you are able to donate a new or late model pick-up truck, please contact our Development Director, Jay Gundy at 302-855-1153 x210.
We are still in need of donated items for our upcoming auction on May 12 at Bethany Blues. Suggestions include; gift certificates for local restaurants, hotels, spas, golf courses, fitness centers, etc. Baskets of cheer, cheese, fruit, chocolate or other delectable treats are most welcome too.

Chad first started volunteering with Habitat at the urging of his mother. Then the former manager at the ReStore suggested that he get involved with AmeriCorps. After serving his term with AmeriCorps, he applied for and got a full-time position as the Donation Ambassador for the ReStore and now has served in this position for a year and a half.

Husson University Student, Marissa, shared a laugh with us on a repair site in Lincoln. Husson Students were here for a week to participate in our Collegiate Challenge, which gives students an opportunity to use their spring break for service with Habitat. #GoHusson
