Congratulations
to
Jazz I for their performance at
the UW Jazz Festival! BHS was
one of 2 Big Bands chosen to play at the evening performance last Saturday night
at Meany Hall.
This event is to be the first of an annual festival at the U of W.
Over 25 middle and High School Jazz combos and Big Bands performed throughout the day. Each group was given a critique & feedback by some of the top Jazz Teachers in the northwest. The students participated in Master Classes, by instrument, instructed by notable regional Jazz professionals.
At the evening Concert, besides the Student Groups that performed that night were the U of W Jazz Ensemble, the U of W Big Band group and the highly acclaimed Cong Vu Trio.
The evening concluded with the presentation of 4 outstanding Soloists awards. Ballard's own amazing Aisha Carpenter received one for her vocals on "St Louis Blues". What a way to wrap up an exceptional day of Jazz!

Children of Eden Synopsis:
Based on the story of Genesis, the age-old conflict of parents & children takes the stage in this epic, heartfelt production. From musical theatre genius Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, & Godspell) comes a joyous & inspirational musical about parents, children and faith...not to mention centuries of unresolved family business! Children of Eden is a show about parenthood and the impossible idea that every child will eventually leave home and become a parent in their own time, a cycle that never ends: As Adam, Eve, Noah, and the "Father" who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children, the show ultimately delivers a bittersweet but inspiring message: that "the hardest part of love... is letting go."
