Teo Spencer, during a year abroad, joined a burgeoning Argentine circus and became an acrobat. Immediately a dream was born - to create opportunities for others to do the same, and to inspire them to do so. Teo was accepted into a highly competitive three-year program of study in circus arts at the University of San Martin, Argentina where he specialized in aerial fabric and performed for premier companies such as Fuerza Bruta and Prix Dami, including presentations for the President of Argentina. He then returned to North America to win "best overall performance" at the 2014 Denver Aerial Arts Festival. Teo currently performs and teaches for Pilobolus Dance Theatre in Washington, Connecticut.

In this workshop we'll unpack the game of 'dexterity and balance' that the element of straps offers us.  There is no technique in the aerial world that a foundation in aerial straps cannot catalyze. We will cover essential conditioning exercises to be strong where necessary and learn to extend and relax through what otherwise might be isometric positions. We'll refine the architecture of our flags, meathooks, and support flags, and stay ahead of our bodies with a battery of injury prevention techniques. The themes we will work on are perennially useful to all straps artists and aerialists. All levels welcome.

Beginner to advanced level students
In this workshop we'll approach an efficient and dynamic style of aerial technique meant to help you feel free and safe to compose your own movements in the air. We'll learn to identify the building blocks of vertical choreography, and play with them, to help us discover new paths for ourselves in the world of fabric. When we're too tired to climb anymore, we'll also explore novel ways of using the fabric for duos and groups. Make sure to bring a camera or smartphone to record the things you make. This class is a lot of fun and can help aerialists at most skill levels, so just make sure you come ready to rock it!
Prerequisites: Must be able to climb a 15 foot fabric two times consecutively and be comfortable hanging upside down... or about 2 months previous experience with a vertical element.

Intermediate level students
In this workshop we will tackle vocabulary related climbs. We'll run through a library of rope climbs that add variation to our sequences, and make us discover new routes into and out of our favorite positions and tricks. We'll also play with dynamic movements to which the rope is particularly suited. Bring your tough skin and be ready to work!
