April Program Spotlight:
The Bible's Walking Dead:  King Saul's Spooky and Sad End

Adult Education at the Jacksonville Jewish Center welcomes Dr. Amy Kalmanofsky, A ssociate Professor of Bible at the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), to the Center on Sunday, April 3 at 7:00 PM.   The subject of her talk will be King Saul, one of the Bible's most tragic figures.  Selected to be Israel's first king, Saul flounders and fails until he is rejected by God and Israel.  In this session, we will consider how Saul's final remarkable moments communicate the tragedy of his life, and rob him of any chance to die with dignity and to be remembered with honor.   Dessert reception will follow.  This program is made possible through the generous support of JTS's Hereld Institute for Jewish Studies.

MERCAZ USA is proud to join again this year in the annual Purim Connection of the American Zionist Movement.  In our special MERCAZ/ AZM campaign, we are raising funds to purchase and provide mishloach manot baskets for two worthy groups of individuals:  Border Police and Soldiers protecting Jerusalem during this current wave of attacks and the children living in the south including those in Ashkelon who are associated with our Masorti congregation Netzach Israel and at the Masorti-affiliated Neve Hanna Children's Village in Kiryat Gat.  Please know that the latter part of the campaign is being conducted in the memory of Marty Davis, our longtime friend from the World Zionist Organization who was one of the staunch supporters of the Masorti congregation in Ashkelon.  Click HERE to read more from MERCAZ about this campaign. Click HERE to visit the AZM website to learn more about the mishloach manot project. Click HERE to place your order of mishloach manot in support of this MERCAZ/AZM Campaign.
