SPRINGING AHEAD
Jennifer Keohane, Executive Director

EDLast weekend, we all moved our clocks ahead an hour in accordance with the start of daylight savings time. Despite the requisite short-term sleep deprivation and a return to waking up to darkness, "springing ahead" is a welcome annual ritual. We quickly adjust to the change, and we march on toward spring with new energy and enthusiasm for longer, warmer days to come.

Here at CLC, the adjustment isn't quite so rapid. We're still adapting to the changes wrought by last year's devastating budget cuts, and the current state fiscal situation session casts a long shadow. (Look for advocacy information on our website, and important details about how to help preserve all state library funding including CLC coming out very soon.) But despite these challenges, there is an energy in the office that is exciting to behold. Rachel has hit the ground running, and is balancing a dizzying array of great deals for members - see below to learn what she has planned for you. Friday we'll host our rescheduled Academic Book Vendor Day, and the CASL and CLA conferences are just around the corner. Roundtables are busier than ever. We hope to see you at one of these events so we can share our excitement and hear all about what's happening at your library.

Ellen Paul
Next week, the energy level will increase even more as we welcome our newest staff member, Ellen Paul. Ellen is a Connecticut native whom some of you may know from her days at the Public Library of New London in 2011-2013. Since then she has been on the move, holding management positions at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and, most recently, the Santa Clara (CA) City Library. She is thrilled to be returning to her home state, and we're equally happy to be bringing her talents to CLC as our Member Advisor.

There's no escaping the changes, as you all know - so we might as well embrace them. This year, we are springing ahead with gusto, completing our team and working with new energy to bring you the greatest value for your member dues and state support. Thank you for the opportunity.
