According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), approximately 3 of every 5 home fire d
eaths result from homes with no smoke alarms or working alarms with dead or missing batteries.
What are the NFPA recommendations for homes?
The recommendations are simple:
1) The NFPA recommends a smoke alarm in every bedroom, outside of each sleeping area, and on every level of your home
2) Test your smoke alarms monthly
3) Replace smoke alarms every 10 years
If your monitor chirps, replace the battery as soon as possible - don't simply remove them to stop the noise.
MD Home Inspections includes a check for these life-saving devices as part of the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI) standards of practice we implement on every inspection.
