Staff Highlight: Meckell Milburn, BS, Health Educator/Coach, Health Promotion

Meckell Milburn, BS, teaches students that stress is a natural part of life and instead of trying to avoid it, it's important to find ways to deal with it in a healthy way. Since she joined the UHS Staff in February 2013, she has been working with students to help them find what stress looks like for them and what they can do to manage it. "When it comes to managing stress, placing less energy into attempting to avoid stress completely is key," said Meckell in her #TangTip to students. Outside of the office, Meckell enjoys reading, exercising, collecting half marathon medals, mediating and being outdoors. Read Meckell's full staff highlight here and make sure to check out her #TangTip video on stress and balance.

How to #PartySafe During Spring Break
Spring Break is that much needed week escape from the craziness and stress of school. Some students have Spring Break plans that explore all areas of the country (or world) and vary in levels of alcohol consumption. Although Spring Break is notoriously crazy, most students aren't participating in a 7 day drinking binge.
Spring Break can be anything that allows you to relax and return to school re-energized. You could go hiking in Yosemite, explore everything hipster in Seattle, be a tourist in your city, spend time with family at home, watch an entire series on Netflix, or hit the beach at Big Sur. Whatever your plans, make Spring Break your own.

Students Raise $750 for to help waive fees for CPS visits
The Office of ASUC Senator Alicia Lau raised $750 in donations for the Tang Center's Counseling and Psychological Services last month during the Run for You 5K. Lau and her team hosted the run in collaboration with UHS to raise money for counseling fee waivers to help student who can't afford therapy after the free sessions offered by CPS.  More than 50 students paid $15 to participate in the 5K that took Lau and her team three months to plan. Runners received a free t-shirt, breakfast, prizes and snack provided by the event sponsors. Read more.

" So I'm a transfer & this will be my first St. Patrick's Day at Cal. In the past I've always volunteered with my family at the parade back home. It's def harder to make friends as a transfer but I still hope going out on St Patrick's day will be a great way to meet some new people."
