UPROSE is hosting its next Sunset Park Upland Connectors project workshop on Saturday, April 16 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Community Board office, 4201 4th Avenue (entrance on 43rd Street).
The Department of Consumer Affairs announced that New Yorkers who earned $62,000 or less in 2015 may qualify for free tax prep services, including online filing and in-person filing with a certified preparer.
In addition, DPR informed the Board that the children's playground in the park will be closed for a year beginning on April 4 for
redesign and complete reconstruction. The new, expanded playground will have separate areas for younger and older children. CB 7 approved this project two years ago and has requested signage in multiple languages to inform the community of the closest available playgrounds. DPR has also promised additional activities staff for the park during construction.
The children's spray shower, which opened last year, will be fully operational this summer. All drainage issues have been resolved. While additional work is required on the controls for the water features, this will not impede use of the entire spray shower area this year.
It is expected that the full Board will vote on the fencing project at the March meeting.
The first contract begins in April 2016 and should be complete by September 2018. It includes steel repair from 48th Street to 6th Avenue, including painting from 56th to 65th Streets.
The second contract begins in June 2016 and should be completed in March 2019. It includes steel repair from 48th Street to Clinton Street. Both contracts include incentives for early completion and penalties for late completion.
Both contracts will necessitate temporary lane closures beneath the Expressway in two block sections.

Community Board 7 and Councilman Carlos Menchaca are hosting a Town Hall meeting on Homeless Services and Programs in the Sunset Park community. It will be held Wednesday, March 30 at 6:30 pm. It will take place at the Community Board office, 4201 4th Avenue (entrance on 43rd Street).
At the February, 2016 meeting of CB 7, the Board took two votes in favor of the Department of Transportation safety improvements for Terrace Place from McDonald Avenue to Prospect Park Southwest.
At the same meeting, the Board also unanimously voted to support a speed hump for 41st Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.
