Month Day, 2015

February was a very noteworthy month. When it comes to defining the success of a library, the first place anyone looks is circulation. And when it comes to circulation, there are three metrics that I like to track:
  • The first is the total number of items that we check out here at our library, whether they be our items or things we've borrowed from other libraries in the network. This number represents the amount of books we are pumping into Douglas.
  • The second is the number of items that we check out from our collection to all the libraries in the C/W MARS network. This number represents our value to the surrounding communities and the commonwealth.
  • The third is the number of items at our library that circulate at our library. This number focuses just on our town, or how well we are developing our collections to suit the needs of the people who are paying for them.
February was the first month in at least three years in which all of these metrics exceeded those of the same month in the previous year. Granted, we had an extra day this February and the weather was beautiful, but circulation trends have been creeping up to this point for some time now. I want to offer a big thank-you to the community for using the resources we offer, and encourage everyone to keep reading, watching, and listening to library materials. Let's make March a record-breaker as well!
Thank you,

Kindles!
While we were spring cleaning, we dusted off some kindle e-readers. Turns out that we have 5 of them, stocked with all the best-sellers from 2012. We have added in a repertoire of classics as well as some newer materials, including Marie Kondo's Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy to help with your spring cleaning.

We are going to start updating the content on these devices to make them relevant again, so stay tuned! Especially if you are on a really long wait list for an item, let us know and we can buy a kindle edition. It is like buying five books at once!
