Schools participating in the Green Schools Challenge have activity #1 listed in the guidebook as an option in which th e Gr een Team can invite a guest speaker come to the school to present information about a particular environmental topic. You can download our list of contacts and let us know if you need assistance  contacting them.

Pinecrest Gardens invites 4th - 12th grade students to enter their  'Environmental Superheroes' video contest

Any idea which city is home to the  world's largest rooftop greenhouse ?


Miami-Dade County 1st - 12th grade students are invited to participate in the  'Clean Up & Green Up' poster contest. The poster (or video - for high school students only) should explain what people  can  do to clean up the community. Read the rules and download the entry form HERE .

Building Student Leaders Through Fundraising


Green Teams can choose to fundraise for Dream in Green throughout the school year. This will allow us to continue offering our programs. The school that raises the most funds receives prizes at the End-of-Year Awards Ceremony. Find out about the prizes we have for winning schools on page 13 of The Academy Guidebook.

January challenge - Alternative Transportation



After much trial and error, students from Epiphany Catholic School were able to assemble a model of a car that can be powered by solar energy. 

Nautilus students created an infographic to illustrate the process H2O and CO2 go through to create transportation fuels. Their research and ideas on alternative transportation led them to win the 'Most Sustainable Environment in a Future City' award at the Regional Competition for Future City Challenge on January 16th.

Gabriel Artiles from Arvida Middle School used a map of his neighborhood to create a detailed diagram of safe routes for bikes and pedestrians. He explains that cycling and walking are environmentally friendly modes of transportation and a great way to exercise.

Dream in Green Grants
Dream in Green offers grants of $300 each month to help 5th - 12th grade Green Teams create 'green' projects. The grant is to be used for the monthly activities chosen from the guidebook or to create an original project designed by the Green Team.

Grants for Special Projects


EcoTech grants in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded to schools for the purpose of engaging students in inquiry-based projects in STEM fields that use innovation, biomimicry/nature-based design, or new uses of technology to address environmental problems in their communities. Learn more HERE.
