JUROR -- We are proud to have Michael Eichwald from Redding, CA as the juror for the 2016 show.

Michael Eichwald is an award winning photographer living in Redding. While in Europe as a young student he was strongly influenced by an uncle who was a professional photographer in London, and also by a second uncle who was active in the academic study of art and visual perception. From these early experiences came a continuing interest in visual aesthetics.
For many years his personal photography took a back seat to the practice of dermatology. With retirement, however, he was able once again to pursue his interest in what makes one image art and another simple craft, as well as to actively support the local appreciation of creative photography.
He is an active member of the North Valley Art League, and for some years was the chairperson for the league's Regional Juried Photography Show. His participation in the local visual art world includes membership in the North State Photography association, Artist's Gathering, and the Salon Artists Group.
Mike's interest in judging comes, then, from a broad perspective that includes a continuing desire to recognize, define, and encourage photography as an art form. He has judged local competitions and was named a preliminary judge for the prestigious Michael Kellicutt Juried Competition of 2011.

Connie's lovely silk scarf...

All Materials that are provided by Cydney Mariel Galbraith for your completed project are listed in the sign-up book at the Carter House Gallery
You will be taking home a completed silk scarf to display or wear and also an 8" small silk hoop. When you have completed this 5 hour workshop you will be able to continue if you so choose. Ties and rectangle scarves can be purchased at the workshop for an additional charge.  Cydney will show you where to get your supplies for future projects you would like to create.  Please bring any stencils or pictures of inspiration this day.

Workshop Description:   Includes five hours of hands on training learning the art of silk painting. Create sensuous, stunningly beautiful designs on silk, using the French serti  technique for applying the dye to the silk. You do not need to have previous experience. Just bring a sense of adventure and  desire to learn.
Cydney's friend's creation...
We will start with basic dying techniques, and then we will learn about gutta techniques using resist, and then branch into colors and special effects on the silk using salt. This is a class for absolute beginners!  Silk painting requires a flexible hand for freedom and to be ok with painting outside of the lines.  You will create an 8" silk hoop and your very own hand painted, color splashed, promise loaded fashion silk. The silk scarf will  be a large 22" square with pure Cambodian woven silk.

Wear as a fluffy fashion scarf or to create a silk scarf to bless someone this Christmas season. Get Ready to surprise yourself just how much creativity is hidden deep down as we discover a new realm of textile painting.

In addition, she is a three-time Canadian National Champion cyclist who has competed at world level, and has been professionally trained both as a chef in pastry and as a wine sommelier. Cydney's deepest passion is to equip others with her gift.  Her motivation is: "to be able to give opportunities of a lifetime... for a lifetime of opportunities!" Cydney is currently in her second year as a Bible College student, having taken a year off in between to grow her business and passion to equip others in the Creative Arts. She has travelled to numerous nations in 2014 to teach and share the art of silk painting including South Africa, Cambodia, and New Zealand, and will be showing workshop participants samples of her work.
