Autumn photo How often do you get the opportunity to help name a park? Come to the Golden Parks & Recreation Advisory Board meeting on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. (Community Center) and you can do just that! The board is looking for suggestions for the park located at Ridge Road and Cressman Court.

If something a little more seasonal is up your alley, don't miss the Be a Tool 5K Elf Run. You can have fun and support a great cause at the same time - great combination! Read on for more information.

Of course, the big news this week is...Thanksgiving! Please remember that City offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, but we'll be back ready to go on Monday. The Community Center, however, will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and regular hours on Friday for those of you ready to work off the feast of the day before.

Here's wishing you and those you love a special Thanksgiving Day!

Project Updates
US 6 & 19th Street Interchange project

Our contractor Kraemer has had good response from subcontractors, and expects at least three bids on all the packages. There have been few questions about the plans, so we are proceeding to bid opening on Dec. 2, and the project will be brought to council for award on Dec. 10.
Stormwater Work

Mowing operations are in Eagleridge this week. In addition, crews are installing a pipe in the Corporate Center.
West Fork Kenney Run Drainage Improvements

The west side stacked boulder wall is now complete downstream of 23rd St, and the 23rd St. box culvert deck was poured on Saturday.
Corporate Circle School Traffic

The drainage pipe and inlets were installed; after asphalt patchback, staff plans on implementing the traffic plan that was circulated last week.
2nd & Washington School Crossing

As a short-term measure before the streetscape project (see below for more information), crews are installing tubular markers at the curb lines to narrow the pedestrian crossing distance and improve sight distance.

**It's worth noting, there are no streetscape plans at this time. The City will have a public meeting in March, which will focus on the outcomes that residents wish to see from this project. Staff is currently working on an Intergovernmental Agreement with CDOT, who is providing $3 million to the project. We hope to have that completed by Spring. We then have to go through consultant selection before we can begin design, which we hope to begin by fall of 2016. The designs will be based on the information staff receives in the March meeting. There will be two public input meetings on the design, likely late 2016 and mid winter 2017, and w expect to begin construction in the spring of 2017.

Upcoming Discussion to Permanently Close a One Block Section of City Street

Council will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10 in the City Hall Council Chambers, 911 10th St., to review an application requesting a vacation of a portion of Arapahoe Street between 13 th  and 14 th  Streets. Please note that Council voted to move the public hearing on first reading, from Dec. 3 to Dec. 10.

The proposed project would create a one block pedestrian thoroughfare in front of Calvary Church and the Armory building that would be open to the general public, though it would be permanently closed to motorized vehicle traffic. The conceptual plan can be found at http://www.cityofgolden.net/media/CalvaryProposal.pdf .

Around Town
Dry late summer means higher water bills

We have been getting questions about why recent water bills have been more than usual. Golden did not increase water rates in 2015. After a wet spring and early summer, August and September were warm and, more importantly, very dry with very little precipitation, so demand was much higher than usual. You can see just how much more water was treated at the water treatment plant in August and September this year compared to last year in the chart below. This change in usage translates into higher water bills.
