The Dating and Relationship Group:
The Scientifically-Proven Ingredients of a Good Romantic Relationship
The work of couples researcher John Gottman, Ph.D. will be featured.  Based at the University of Washington in Seattle and the author of numerous highly-acclaimed books, Gottman has been researching couples for over 30 years.  He has gathered a significant amount of data and identified important trends that distinguish the "masters" from the "disasters" in terms of long-term success in romantic love.    In the next meeting of the Dating and Relationship Group on Saturday, March 19, 2016, 12:00 to 1:15 PM noon, I will summarize the major findings of Gottman's research.  Specifically, we will discuss how Gottman perceives successful conflict resolution in couples, his notion of the love "bank account," the "four horsemen of the apocalypse," and his model of a "Sound Relationship House."

The Men's Group:
Man's (New) Best Friend: "Relational Dialysis" -- How to Do It and Why It's So Effective
The emotional IQ of men is often criticized.  What's more, perhaps the most common problem among heterosexual couples revolves around complaints that the male partner does not listen well, does not provide emotional support, and is too solution-focused.  While most men desire and enjoy intimacy, a substantial portion of men does not understand how to capitalize on opportunities to support and advance emotional bonding with their partners.   In the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, March 19, 2016, 10:45 AM to 12:00 PM noon,  I will continue our discussion of the work of couples researcher John Gottman, Ph.D., specifically his model of the "Sound Relationship House," a scientifically-proven conception of the elements of a viable relationship.  We will then turn our attention to "relational dialysis," a pragmatic model of listening that describes the do's and don'ts of positive relational experience.
