The Financial Coalition of Barron County, in partnership with Royal Credit Union, will be presenting a reality fair called "Test Drive" for junior and senior high students throughout the county.  It is a simulation of real life when it comes to money and finances. This event is a hands-on experience in which students select a career, research the education needed for the career. The students are required to live on the given salary while paying for general living expenses. They visit various booths covering the components to real life.

In order the make this event successful, we are looking for approximately 75 volunteers from area businesses to work the various booths that will be available.

Where: WITC in Rice Lake
When: Wednesday, March 30th, 2016
Time: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Jackie Molden at jackie.molden@rcu.org by Friday, February 19th.

Placemaking Update

A mural depicting Rice Lake's lumbering heritage has been placed on a building by the Rice Lake dam as part of the Placemaking effort. Many citizens have expressed the need to keep Rice Lake's heritage alive. Artist Stacy Carlson-Kelly from Eau Claire painted the mural. The mural was paid for with a $1500.00 grant from the Realtors Association of Northwestern Wisconsin. Barron County Economic Development, Taco Johns and the Chamber of Commerce also contributed funds.

Barron County employees placed the mural on the building January 29th.

There will be a community Placemaking meeting to provide updates to the public and City Councilmen regarding how the program is progressing and improving our city.

  • Date: Tuesday, February 23, 2016
  • Time: 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: Rice Lake City Hall

Bert's Joke of the Month

The other night on the Stephen Colbert Show one of his guests was Kermit the Frog. The topic if their discussion was about life. Stephen asked Kermit, "What was your biggest disappointment in life?", to which Kermit replied, "It was probably when I signed up for biology in high school".

Sincerely,

Karen Heram
