Meg Murphy Garfield

Owner of Plymouth Open Doors Yoga Studio, " Free Your Body, Free your Mind"
Located in West Plymouth Plaza

Taking her first yoga class seven years ago changed Meg's life. At first it was finding more strength and flexibility in the physical sense, but as her practice grew, Meg realized the overall value of "Free Your Bogy, Free Your Mind". Through breath and postures, one experiences a feeling of overall balance, tranquility and kindness. This starts from within, so you can then share this experience with others. Yoga will improve your physical strength, release toxins, increase your energy and help you live healthier everyday!

Following her heart and love of the ocean, Meg moved to Plymouth, Massachusetts from Rochester, New York. The business community was extremely welcoming, with The Chamber of Commerce providing opportunities to be actively involved.

Plymouth Open Doors has the best qualified instructors with unique personalities that shine when they guide you through a class. We offer classes for beginners through advance and heat from moderate to HOT!! All first time students enjoy 3 classes for $20. Visit our website at Open Doors Yoga, click Plymouth, pick a class and come visit!

The Story of Mel's Bracelets

Our mission is to empower people touched by cancer through education, patient support and research.

What Does Mel's Bracelet™ Mean To You?
To the people that wear one it's more than just a bracelet, it's a story... what's yours?
Mel Simmons exuded life. She brought her energy into every room she ever entered, every life she ever touched. Mel loved people and took them as they were, on their terms. Mel was diagnosed in 2000 with breast cancer. Her initial biopsy showed 24 nodes positive for breast cancer. Mel entered every drug protocol offered which resulted in her having to take a year off from work, leaving her both physically and financially drained - but never without her legendary humor and spirit. As a 38 year Boston based flight attendant for Delta Air Lines, Mel had many colleagues who would bring Mel handfuls of colorful bracelets from abroad. Mel loved them and delighted in giving them away to hospital staff and patients. Patients arrived for chemotherapy treatments to find beautiful bracelet gifts from Mel on their chairs.

Shortly after Mel passed away, those who received the bracelets as gifts began wearing them in her honor. Mel´s Bracelet™ has become an icon for friendship, support, love, community and solidarity that started with one person and has grown to include many other people's touching stories. A group of her friends decided to offer the bracelets for a donation to fund the research and support that helped Mel survive for five years after her diagnosis. In just one year, Mel's friends raised $1,000,000 and donated the funds to the Massachusetts General Cancer Center in her honor. The Friends of Mel Foundation continues to grow.

Protect Your Way of Life Our Voluntary Benefits Can Help
You've worked hard to build a life that you and your family love. We work hard to help you protect it - even when challenging times get in the way. Our personal insurance products offer protection in three key areas:
  • Wellness - We promote healthier lifestyles and preventive measures by offering benefits for certain wellness and health screening tests.
  • Medical - Get help with the direct medical costs of qualifying accidents and sicknesses.
  • Financial - We assist with the indirect, out-of-pocket costs of qualifying accidents and sicknesses - the costs that major medical insurance typically doesn't pay.
1-to-1 Benefits Counseling We Can Help You Better Understand Your Benefits
In today's world of complex benefits, it's important to know your options so you can make the choices that best fit your lifestyle and budget. That's why we train our benefit counselors to talk with employees 1-to-1. This way, they can help you understand your benefits and where you may need additional coverage.
Our benefit counselors help simplify the entire benefits process, and they take this responsibility seriously. They provide a private consultation to help you understand how each benefit election impacts your paycheck. They can:
  • Simplify complex benefit concepts.
  • Answer your questions.
  • Walk you through the enrollment process.
Through our post-enrollment surveys, we ask employees to rate their 1-to-1 benefits counseling sessions. Employees give our benefit counselors high marks for explaining all of their options and not just selling insurance. We're told time and again that these 1-to-1 meetings improve their benefits knowledge, call us today!

Get in the race to beat cancer with Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth

It's time to join in the race against cancer. Teams of walkers and volunteers are needed to participate in the 2016 Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth, which takes place on Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18, at Carver Middle School.

Benefitting the American Cancer Society, this important community fundraiser helps cancer survivors and their families. Teams "walk around the clock" to raise money that goes toward programs, research and medicine to aid those with cancer.

In the process, everyone celebrates the advances made in the fight against cancer and honors those that have been lost to this terrible disease.

The Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth includes Survivors and Caregivers Laps, Survivors Reception, Luminaria Ceremony with 5,000-plus candles, music by a DJ, games, decorated campsites, contests, drawings, auctions, live performances and demonstrations, food, ice cream, and much more.

Teams can sign up now and begin fundraising for the Relay For Life by registering online at www.relayforlife.org/gtrplymouthma. Volunteers are also needed to plan and assist with running the event.

The Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth will be held June 17 and 18 at Carver Middle School. Last year, 500 walkers and 100 cancer survivors participated in this important fundraiser to stop cancer. The event covers the towns of Plymouth, Carver, Kingston and Plympton.

For details about the 2016 Relay For Life, contact Lisa Jensen at [email protected] or 781-831-4937, or go to the local website at www.relayforlife.org/gtrplymouthma.
