May 2014

Important announcement ... I will be out of the salon in late May ... please check my schedule below.

Attention all you dance and movie buffs!  Famed actress Leslie Caron is starring in the comedy "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks", which just opened at the Laguna Playhouse ...  it runs through June 1st.

As an actress and dancer, she appeared in 45 films between 1951 and 2003.  Most famous for An American in Paris (1951),
Lili (1953), Daddy Long Legs (1955), Gigi (1958), she is one of the few dancers or actresses who have danced with Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Rudolf Nureyev.

Gene Kelly discovered her in Roland Petit Company "Ballet des Champs Elyses", and cast her to appear opposite him in the musical An American in Paris, a role in which a pregnant
Cyd Charisse was originally cast.

I purchased tickets the moment they went on sale last October ... we are so excited to see it, and especially Leslie Caron, one of my wife's favorite actresses.  (click the flyer at right for ticket information)

Have a great Spring!

Ruby . . .
My New Assistant!

Unfortunately, Sharon was forced to resign as my assistant since her daily commute had become daunting ... sometimes requiring a 2 hour trip home at night.  She found a salon much nearer her home in Corona, where she can take-over the clients of a stylist moving out of the area.  I wish her well.

Fortunately, I have found a great new assistant in Ruby.  An October 2013 graduate of Marinello School of Beauty in Huntington Beach, she initially chose to attempt building her own clientele in a small commission salon, immediately following her school experience. But being a really ambitious go-getter, she quickly decided there is much more to learn about her craft to enable her to follow her goal of becoming a sophisticated stylist.

I applaud her decision ... and look forward to her meeting each of you!

In The News . . .
Bold Hair Color Abounds

Fashion is definitely continuing to move strongly away from "natural".  For several years now this has been the common influence of today's newest looks, both in hair and clothing.
You may recall my November 2012 eBulletin, where I analyzed fashion trends over the last 125 years ... 1890s Victorian, Roaring 20s, 50s, 80s ... and now the 2010 era.

The image above is from the upcoming June 2014 issue of German VogueAt the right are from the May 2014 issue of Nylon. These certainly highlight today's looks which are "artistic" and "creative" ... the antithesis of natural!

Bold color is definitely in ... the pendulum has fully swung!  And ... it is not only for the young ... CLICK HERE

New Saturday Hours
8am to 4pm

Gods & Heros has changed their Saturday hours to accommodate more clients, since more stylists work on that day, than any other.  Years ago, I typically started at 8am, so I will once again offer that early appointment.  Those of you who enjoy getting an early start on the week end, will appreciated this option.  My current hours: Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - 9am to 7pm and Saturday - 8am to 4pm.  Perhaps I'll see you at 8:00am!

Tricia . . . an extremely out-going and photogenic dance instructor, has graced the cover of my website twice in the past (2007-2008).  Her new cut shows the fullest extent of the current trend ... a-line, under-cut, drop-out, texturized and asymmetrical.  See more views of this unique look HERE.

Thomas . . . younger brother of Tess.  Many of you have followed her over the years on my website.  She appeared regularly, especially when she was in high school, and was a frequent subject of my photography with her many different looks and styles. She is now married with two children (2 years & 4 months) . . . and lives near Seattle.  Thomas is in high school ... and definitely has his own sense of style!

Salon Schedule*
May-August 2014 . . .

I will not be traveling further for USA Dance as my term as Senior Vice-President has ended.  It was a hectic 6 years ... with many aspects which opened up wonderful opportunities.  But ... there was also the tedious and difficult side, which I will not miss!  It is now time to re-concentrate myself to my wife & family and of course my salon business.  (*Click on the calendars to bring up enlargements)
