It is so amazing that the new school year has begin ... how time flies!

Much has happened in the news recently, but one item that I found especially noteworthy, probably missed by most, was the passing of

Paula Kent Mehhan, one of the giants of the hair industry.  A model & actress, she formed Redken in 1960, along with her partner Jheri Redding, a hairstylist & chemist (d. 1998).  The name Redken was the amalgamation of both their names ... "Red" from Redding, and "Ken" from Kent.  It was to become one of the leading and most innovative hair product companies.  In 1993 it was purchased by Cosmair, part of the L'Oral empire.

Check my schedule below as I will be out of the salon during late October.  Also, remember to click on each image in my eBulletin for more pictures.

See you soon,

Bill

Short Hair Trend Continues

Kaley Cuoco, star of Big Bang Theory, has shocked many with her startling change. While her new look initially resulted in some panicked feelings, the actress said she really liked her hairstyle. "I feel liberated," she told Women's Health. "It's like I needed to find myself again."

The actress cut off 10 inches in total. "It's the best decision I've ever made," Cuoco later told Us Weekly, while revealing that the cut was inspired by a Dawson's Creek alum. "I wanted it to be my own, but my inspiration was Michelle Williams in her Louis Vuitton campaign," Cuoco said. "I loved that haircut so much.

Shailene Woodley, the young new star of Divergent recently made headlines by cutting her hair for charity.  In fact, her mother joined her in making the donation, both cutting off their long hair together.

The 22-year-old actress chatted with BuzzFeed about the change in Tris' appearance for the Divergent sequel: "This is what you'll be seeing. I talked to the director [Robert Schwentke] because I didn't want to wear a wig. I think wigs always look wiggy, especially in an action movie. We're running so much and doing so much.  She added, "I think it's cool to have a young heroine with short hair."

Also, cutting her hair recently is Scarlett Johansson.  Her new look features a long, sweeping fringe, and an updated pale blond color.  If you look closely you'll see that it is an "under-cut" ... how daring!  Several of my more daring clients have sported an under-cut style ... some currently.  For more about these great new looks, and more about the famous Pixie Cut click HERE

Danielle . . .
My New Assistant

Ruby, unfortunately, was unable to continue as my assistant ... child care was becoming more of a challenge for her. It is extremely difficult to balance being a single parent, and starting a career at the same time. She made the proper decision to concentrate on being a mom. I will definitely miss her.

Danielle is a recent graduate of the Toni & Guy Academy in Costa Mesa  ... not far from the salon.  Immediately following, she has worked for 3 months as an assistant at a salon in San Juan Capistrano. It is wonderful to have someone experienced to work with me.  I look forward to each of you meeting her.  She is bright, confident, and very personable.  We will make a great team!

Maysim . . . is a very strikingly attractive lady who loves her accessories!  Whether it is a purse, her shoes, or wonderful glasses, she always makes a statement.  Her current look is a short A-line, which can easily be tucked behind her ears ... which is her favorite way of styling it.

Katherine . . . visited me recently for the very first time by herself,
as she is now driving.  Wow ... I remember how big of a deal it was when I was her age!  Her new look is a very classic, slightly A-line Bob, with highlights in the front panel around her face.
A very modern way of capturing a striking classic look!

Catri . . . will be getting married in November to her long-time boy friend, Paul. I am very pleased to be doing her wedding hair style.  BTW ... we are back to bleach blonde after a brief excursion to highlights on her naturally medium blonde hair.  Always adventurous, she is growing a little length for her wedding style. I will definitely be capturing images of the big event!

Tricia . . . in the last issue of my eBulletin, I featured Tricia's new style.  It received so much attention, especially on Pinterest, that I thought I'd show other view angles of this unique cut.  It has become the most "re-pinned" of my image ever!  Seems many others love this unusual look also.

Kristi . . . the eldest daughter of Lori, a local client, and mother of 4, she lives in Portland, Oregon.  While in SoCal recently, she wanted to visit me for a full change.  Now that her kids are older she wanted less hair, so She let me cut nearly 9 inches.  While we won't be able to see each other frequently, perhaps once a year she can came in to let me have at it!  I look forward to sharing an adventure.

Elaine . . . and I have known each other for a long time, as her husband cleaned our salon in Mission Viejo years ago. She is also one of my most "senior" clients at 78 yrs old.  She looks absolutely wonderful, and she certainly is not shy about broadcasting her age. She is proud of it!

Midori . . . continues to explore variations of the A-line Bob.  This time it is even more dramatic, and I used a razor for the entire cut to create extra texture.  Her color is a very rich deep red-brunette.  It will be interesting to see where we go next?!

Jeanette & Alison
Mother and Daughter

Families have always been an important part of my hairdressing career.  Moms and daughters ... grandmothers ... and in the case of one family, a Great-grandmother.!  I am blessed to have several 3 (and a 4 generation) families as clients. It creates many amazing memories.

It is especially fun to have them come into the salon together.  Jeanette and Alison always book their appointments at the same time, so Alison can get her hair colored at the same time as I am cutting Jeanette. We then finish with Alison's cut ... and then it is off to lunch together!  San Jose Mexican Restaurant is one of their favorites!

New Saturday Hours
8am to 4pm

Gods & Heros has changed their Saturday hours to accommodate more clients, since more stylists work on that day than any other.  Years ago, I typically started at 8am, so I will once again offer that early appointment.  Those of you who enjoy getting an early start on the week end will appreciated this option.  My current hours: Wednesday, Thursday & Friday - 9am to 7pm and Saturday - 8am to 4pm.
Perhaps I'll see you at 8:00am!
Salon Schedule*
September - December 2014

I will be in the salon most of the summer & fall, except for the 4th week of October ... see the calendars below.  *Click on the calendars to bring up enlargements of each month thru December.
