Winter Tech Time!

Forget Winter...Think Racing

Last year, Graham Long invited us to do a Winter Tech session at his newly finished shop in scenic NJ and a large crowd happily responded. It was great fun to catch up with each other, look over Graham's state of the art shop (I'm still drooling over those lifts) and also get a lot of good information about race car prep, especially shocks.

This year, Graham has invited us all back to  Grahams Engineering & Motorsport for a 2016 winter technical  seminar, on February 27th, at 300 Colfax Avenue, Unit A (under the blue  awning) in Clifton, NJ 07013.

Doors will open at 9am for members to meet and greet, look around at whatever neat machinery Graham has in house and to enjoy some coffee and snacks.

At 10am, Mack McCormack will welcome us all and then hand the mike to Graham who will give us what promises to be a very interesting tech talk about all aspects of welding, covering MIG, TIG and gas welding. He'll cover welding machines, supplies and safety equipment and concentrate on what sort of welding works best for repairs on our vintage cars.

Nial McCabe will be bringing a 3D printer with him to talk about and demonstrate this new technology which has great promise for creating unobtainium pieces no longer available for our cars.

Just before we take a break for lunch (subs, sides, snacks and sodas), Chris Shoemaker will talk about head and neck restraints. He'll show the various options available, the differences between them and how they are supposed to work best.

After lunch, Ralph Steinberg will discuss any changes in VRG car classification and clarify this sometimes confusing topic. As you all know, Ralph is a walking compendium of vintage car knowledge and his talk should be a great opportunity to learn from someone who really knows these cars.

There will be plenty of time after the formal talks for informal get togethers, and q&a time with any of the VRG Board members/executives who will be there...so bring your questions!

To make sure there is enough food and drink for all, Graham would very much appreciate it if anyone planning on attending would RSVP to him online at  [email protected] or by calling him at 908-500-5096. All VRG members are welcome and invited to bring a friend, family member, etc...just let him know you're coming with a pal.

Winter Tech was a lot of fun last year and this year promises to raise the bar again. Hope we'll see you there.

  Sincerely,
 Storm Field
