What is a sweepstakes? How does it work at KBOO?
Sweepstakes  are a type of contest where prizes may be awarded to winners. We promote these prize opportunities before our Membership Drives as a means to "subvert" days of the drive - the more money we raise in this way, the shorter the drive! At KBOO, everyone who donates during this "subvert" period will be entered into the sweepstakes. All monthly donors are automatically entered. As well, no purchase is necessary to be entered into the sweepstakes.

How helpful is the sweepstakes?
Very! Our sweepstakes often shortens the drive by a day. Community support helps to energize everyone involved, especially when it means we can close the drive a day early!

You can help as a donor and as a business-owner:

Donors:  keep an eye out for our "subvert the drive" mailing! We'll be sending one out in March before our Spring Membership Drive, which is scheduled for April 21st through May 3rd.

Business-Owners:  help us build an amazing sweepstakes prize! Gift certificates, vacation stays, bicycles, season passes... the possibilities are endless. When the new site is implemented (in a matter of weeks now), it will be a lot easier to search our archives, post to our community calendar, subscribe to a podcast of your favorite shows, and share your favorite content on social media. 

The KBOO app is now working and available for Androids and iPhones. If you go to the KBOO website http://kboo.fm with a mobile device, you will get an option to download the app.

And our Social Media Team kickoff event is on February 10th, 7pm, at KBOO!

KBOO is proud to broadcast the 18th Annual Homelessness Marathon, which will originate from Washington, DC this year. The Marathon gathers homeless people and talks with them all night, while taking calls from around the country and talking to experts, advocates, and politicians. Hear homeless people telling their stories, not as poor unfortunates, but as Americans talking to their fellow citizens about the conditions they face.

The Homelessness Marathon will air from Wednesday, February 17th at 5pm to Thursday, February 18th at 6am.  Learn more on our episode page.
Morpheus Youth Project Podcast Listening Party
  
Executive Director of Morpheus Youth Project, Carlos Chavez, will be hosting a Public Listening Party at his office (1505A SE 122nd Avenue, Portland, OR 97233) on Friday, February 29th at 6:30pm. The first episode of the podcast will be played over the air as well - the public event will have a discussion afterwards. This event is free and open to the public.


The KBOO News is looking for more volunteers. Jobs include: writers, reporters, anchors, field recorders, and board-operators. Want to get involved? Come by the station and look for handy sign-up sheets for our many free trainings.

Come down to the KBOO News Open House, on Friday, February 19th from 4-7pm. Watch the news as it happens, ask questions, and find out how you can become a citizen journalist.

Remember that applications for our 2016 Artist in Residence 
are due Friday, February 12th!

The KBOO Community Radio Artist In Residence Program assists artists working creatively with sound. Every year, one artist or one collaborative group of artists will be awarded 20 hours of studio recording & production time with a KBOO mixologist in order to create a piece of sound art that will be be publicly presented at the end of the Residency.

Again, the deadline for this year is February 12th at 5pm.

KBOO is looking for proposals for new queer programming. The format is one hour long and covers the spectrum of LGBTQIA communities. Proposal forms are located in the KBOO lobby at 20 SE 8th Avenue, and online here: https://kboo.fm/volunteer/program-app

Malcom X Tribute on An Evening of Afrotainment

Join Lanita Duke and Grassroots News for the music, memory, and deconstruction of Malcolm X's political career, his split from the Nation of Islam, and the course of action that led to his assassination Feb 21 1965.
