Awards and Recognition:
Acknowledging Contributions and Efforts
Message from Deborah Collier, RHIA; CHIA President

We have a wealth of talent, knowledge and expertise among our members that demonstrate merit for recognition. Honoring the excellence, dedication, and service of Health Information Management (HIM) professionals is an important annual tradition CHIA has supported with Recognition Awards. The recognition award categories include: Distinguished Member, Educator, HIM Industry Champion, Literary, and Rising Star. Two new award categories added this year are the Volunteer and Mentor. Nomination guidelines, submission criteria, and the selection process can be found here

Additionally, CHIA is committed to supporting education with student scholarships and an educational grant for a California CAHIIM-accredited program. Up to four $500 scholarships will be awarded to the students who meet the scholarship criteria. The purpose of CHIA's student scholarships is to assist students in completing their HIM education. The purpose of the CHIA HIIM Program Grant is to support needed improvements in teaching and learning resources for CAHIIM-accredited health information administration informatics, and technology programs. More information about the scholarship criteria and HIIM Program Grant can be found on the CHIA Scholarship Programs webpage

CHIA invites and encourages all members, students and HIIM Program Directors to submit nominations and/or apply for these awards. The deadline is February 28, 2016. Award recipients will be formally announced and acknowledged at the CHIA Convention & Exhibit in Long Beach, June-5-8, 2016.
