Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College Speech Team Wins at
All-State Competition
The SAC Speech Team won accolades at the state competition recently.


Recently, the Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College (SAC) speech team traveled to San Jacinto College in Houston to compete against other two-year colleges in public speaking and oral interpretation events. The team won first place in Team Sweeps: Individual Events and 2nd in Team Sweeps: Overall. 

Two team members tied for second place Top Speaker of the tournament: Micah Murphy and Michael Nelson. Nelson and Murphy each also won first place in two other categories.  The members of the team, in addition to Murphy and Nelson, are: Zach Crumley, Dillon McCoy and Tyshee Sonier. Team coaches are Justin Blacklock and Jolinda Ramsey.


Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College Vice President Dove Honored as "Luminary Woman"
Dr. Tangila Dove, Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College
vice president of college services, was recently honored
as a "Luminary Woman of San Antonio."


Alamo Colleges - Northeast Lakeview College's Dr. Tangila Dove, vice president of college services, was selected as a Distinguished Leadership Texas Graduate and honored at the Luminary Women of San Antonio Dinner March 7. The event featured notable San Antonio women leaders assembled to meet the 90 women leaders from across the state of Texas who comprise the 2016 Leadership Texas class.

Dr. Dove is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Texas. As a "Luminary Woman of San Antonio," Dove is one of several women in the area who represent future leadership in San Antonio.


BarbaraJean Ramos, Alamo Colleges - Palo Alto College Somos MAS president, was honored with an award at the National Association for Chicana/Chicano Studies Conference.

Alamo Colleges - Palo Alto College Club President Honored at Conference

In February, ten members from the Alamo Colleges - Palo Alto College (PAC) Somos MAS/Mexican-American Studies student organizations attended the National Association for Chicana/Chicano Studies Conference (NACCS) in Houston. The NACCS is the academic organization that serves academic programs and departments that focus on issues pertaining to Mexican Americans, Chicana/Chicanos and Latina/Latinos.

At the conference,Somos MAS President BarbaraJean Ramos was awarded the Premio de Estudiante Aztlan Award. Ramos is the first ever recipient and received the recognition for her excellent academic performance and community involvement.

"I want the Mexican-American Studies program to grow and thrive, and this conference helps us do that" said Ramos. "I hope other PAC students can receive this award, and we can leave a legacy. I love Somos MAS and our (Mexican-American Studies) program. It's not exclusive to just Chicanas/Chicanos," she added. "But it's here for everyone to learn and appreciate diversity and our heritage."
