NOVEMBER AT THE MUSEUM

The temperature may be cooling down, but the Museum is heating up! Fires of Change opens next Thursday, November 19 with a reception from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. See the work for the first time, listen to a reading by poet David Chorlton and a presentation by artist Bryan David Griffith, and get a glimpse what's to come at the Museum! With November also comes holiday hours: we will be closed Wednesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day and Thursday and Friday November 26 and 27 in observance of Thanksgiving.
Stephen Pyne at the Museum
On Thursday, December 3 from 5:00 -7:00 pm, University of Arizona Press author Stephen J. Pyne joins us for a program in conjunction with Fires of Change. A fusion of art and science, author and fire expert Pyne tells the improbable story of the world's most famous forest fire painting. Painted in 1898 by Russian artist Alexei Kuzmich Denisov-Uralsky, it was an integral part of the doomed Russian contribution to the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. Reproduced several times, the image became one of the most recognizable forest fire paintings in the world, while the sordid story of the original is shrouded in mystery. Pyne will also sign copies of his new book, Between Two Fires, published by The University of Arizona Press. The program is included with Museum admission.  Learn more
