Come visit the Museum this weekend at the 2016 Festival of Books! Find us in Science City in the brand new Science in Art tent for an exciting lesson on making paint and pigments from natural materials. You can also sign up for a special tour of

Opening March 18-
ArtWorks: Through Our Eyes
. The next in the Museum's series of Community-Generated exhibitions features ArtWorks, a program through The University of Arizona for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The artists visited the Museum on personalized tours to select their inspiration pieces, then created original work based on those pieces. Please join us for an exhibition opening with the artists on Friday, March 18 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Learn more

Coming soon to a Museum near you-
McCall at the Movies: Selections from the Archive of Visual Arts.
The Museum's Archive of Visual Arts holds the archives of many artists with Southwest (mostly Arizona) connections, including renowned space artist Robert McCall. McCall did work for NASA, but also produced concept and promotional work for major Hollywood pictures, including
Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Black Hole, Tora! Tora! Tora!
, and
2001: A Space Odyssey
. This exhibit unites that concept and promotional work with related archival materials for wide-screen view of McCall's work and methods. Learn more

Have little ones who are interested in art, or just want a fun family activity? Join us on March 16 at 9 am for Art Sprouts: Animal Safari! Art Sprouts is a fun story time and art making event for families with children ages 2 to 5 years. Adults and their children will explore works of art, move their bodies, read a book, and investigate objects and art materials. Choice-based studio activities extend the learning and fun. All of these components are designed to not only inspire, but to also foster cognitive, fine, and gross motor skills, which are essential to child development. It's also a great bonding experience for families! Art Sprouts is FREE with Museum admission ($8/general, $6.50/65+, free/under 18) and is always FREE for Museum members, and University of Arizona students, staff, and faculty (with CatCard). John Rasimus

|
Visiting Mixed Media Artist, John Rasimus, will present a public program at the Museum on March 30th from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm as a part of the
Modern Myth
exhibition. Rasimus, a Swedish artist, (painter, drawer, printmaker, installation and animation) will be speaking about the development of his own work and the story behind it. He will discuss Swedish painter Verner Molin and Molin's forest spirit "mörksuggan" well known in his home, Dalarna, Sweden. Additionally he will show the mythological works by painter/illustrator John Bauer and briefly present other myths from Scandinavia. This project has been made possible by a grant from the College of Fine Arts Bank One Visiting Artist Professorship Awards and funding from The
School of Art.

Delve deeper into the science behind
Fires of Change with a special panel presentation on Thursday, March 31 at 5:30 pm. Provost Andrew Comrie will moderate this panel of UA researchers and experts as they examine climate change, climactic events, and the effects that both of these have on society. Panelists are: Dr. Greg Barron-Gafford, from the School of Geography and Biosphere 2, Dr. David Breshears, from the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, Chris Baisan, Research Specialist from the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research, and Dr. Ben McMahan, from the Institute for the Environment. The program is included with Museum admission.
