Welcome
to the December  2015 issue of Highlights!

It's hard to believe 2015 is coming to an end!  Thank you to all of our volunteers who have helped to support us throughout the year by raising awareness of CVS, took time out to host fundraising events, for all donations and contributions, and to all who attended our 5K Run/Walk this past May.  A big Thank You to our team of medical advisors who put in countless hours to help CVS sufferers around the world!

We would like to wish you a happy, healthy and joyous season from all of us at the Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Association!

Happy Holidays from our Program Director, Ruth
Novak and our  Board of Directors - Kathleen Adams, Jennifer Dhuse, Ron and Ruth Novak, Mary Rachael Lovett-Barr, Robin Raskin, Anthony & Tara Destribats, Connie Hill, and  Tom & Shelley Kupetis.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
A 'Shout Out' to
Jerry and Helene Iverson
for Raising Awareness of CVS
at their 40th Wedding
Anniversary 'Trifecta' Party!

Grandparents, Jerry and Helene Iverson of Appleton, Wisconsin honored their 11 year-old grandson Nick Schiller, who is a CVS Sufferer, at their 40th Wedding Anniversary Party last month.  The party was held at a local restaurant on November 1st.  The 'Trifecta' Party was held in honor of:  Iverson's 40th Wedding Anniversary, Jerry's 65th Birthday, and the end of Daylight Savings Time.  In lieu of presents they handed out buckets and asked for donations to be made in Nick's honor, and were able to collect $710.00 for the CVSA!

Irene stated, "At our age, we don't need "things".  We asked for funny cards and a donation to the CVSA as most of our invitees know about Nick's condition.  We wanted to demonstrate to Nick that we care about him and the others who suffer with CVS. We wanted to model giving back to others."

Thank you Jerry and Helene for your kindness and generosity!  Happy Anniversary!

Medical News!
CVSA Joins Genetic Alliance
to Endorse Rob Califf for the New FDA Commissioner

Please join CVSA in supporting Dr. Rob Califf's nomination for FDA Commissioner.  He is a champion for patient/participants in all aspects of research and regulatory practices.  In particular, he has a history of working with research labs, drug companies, and the FDA to move new therapies from research labs to clinics. We encourage members to see Genetic Alliance's sign-on letter for more information about Dr. Califf.

Alternatively, members can contact their elected representatives in support of Dr. Califf's nomination.

Go Fund Me Project to Raise $
for the Adult Guidelines for Diagnosing and Treating CVS -

It is so exciting that the CVSA and the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society (ANMS) will partner to develop Adult Guidelines!

With Children's Guidelines already in place thanks to CVSA fundraising, and our strong team of medical advisors, we are embarking on a partnership project that will help adult sufferers around the world.  When completed, these guidelines will help doctors and ER personnel know how to better care for CVS patients.

Creating medical guidelines is expensive.  CVSA is the financial sponsor for these guidelines, but we are asking for your help to join us in funding this project.  All donations are greatly appreciated!  We will keep you posted with more information on the progress of this project as we move forward.

Please visit our page at:

Total Amount Raised to Date:
$16,306.00!

Thank you from the Board of Directors

Hope Starts Here
with Holiday Cheer!

The CVSA is running our holiday program once again for the second year, and will be accepting donations now through the end of December.   We were able to raise
$8,470.00  last year and thank you for your generosity!

Please consider making a charitable donation to the CVSA this holiday season.   You may want to honor a family member or friend who has CVS, or you may want to  donate in lieu of giving a gift to family, friends and co-workers. All donations from our  holiday program will be used to support the CVSA research fund and operations.

This year we will be designating 50% of our fund to the Adult Treatment Guidelines  project. Previous research funds have been used to underwrite the creation of the
NASPHGAN Guidelines, to fund research symposiums, to grant scholarships  to young clinicians and scientists, and to fund pilot grants.

If you wish to make a donation on-line please

If you would prefer to mail a check you may do so to the address below. Please make checks payable to the CVSA, and note: 'Holiday Cheer' in the memo line.
