College Applications
Seniors applying to college should be submitting their applications by now if they have not done so already.   Application due dates vary from school to school, but in general colleges prefer to receive applications by early December.

Save the Date: Financial Aid Night
Financial Aid is provided for by the federal government, the State of Wisconsin, outside scholarship sources, and the college/universities themselves.   Most aid is based on financial need and is designed to help meet the difference between the cost of college and the student and family's ability to pay for the education.
HUHS will be hosting a presentation for college-bound students and their parents to learn about grants, loans, student employment, and scholarships on Wednesday, December 16, at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria.   A speaker from Great Lakes Higher Education will be here to discuss the process of how families finance college costs through all the available options.   Senior students and parents should plan to attend!

Educational Spotlight - Kinesiology at UW-Madison
Undergraduate students in the Department of Kinesiology focus on the scientific study of exercise and movement, and also on the application of this study to health, physical education, functional performance, and athletic training.  These programs attract students interested in the health professions (including athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, and medicine), and teaching physical education.     The department offers three options leading to the Bachelor of Science degree:
1)       Exercise and Movement Science, preparing students for graduate or professional study
2)       Athletic Training, preparing students for the national board exam
3)       Physical Education, preparing teachers for elementary, middle, and high schools.
All three options emphasize basic sciences, core Kinesiology courses, specialized classes in the specific major option, and course work in the liberal arts.   For more information, go to kinesiology.education.wisc.edu

Badger Boys/Girls
Does your student have an interest in government and citizenship?  Do they display qualities of leadership, good moral character, cooperativeness, dependability, and participate in co-curricular activities?  Consider the Badger Boys or Girls State Program in June 2016.  It's an exciting week of meeting new students, staying on a college campus, and experiencing dorm life.  There's campaigning, pep rallies, State Fair, talent shows, recreational programs, music, discussion sessions, sports, etc.  It's a sponsored event, so there's no cost to the participants.  Badger Girls is the week of June 19 - June 24 and is held on the UW-Oshkosh Campus.  Badger Boys is June 11 - June 18 and held at Ripon College.  More information will be available in the months to come.
