This Sunday is Gratitude Sunday!
Pledge packets are in the mail! We will present our annual giving commitments during worship services on the 22nd, but you may return your card at any time by placing it in the offering plate or mailing it to the church.  

Our goal for this year is to have 100% involvement in member pledging! Join us in experiencing the joy of giving!

Charge Conference
November 19 at 6:00 PM in the Longfellow Room

There will be a Charge Conference, as required by the Book of Discipline, for the purpose of determining the  compensation of appointed clergy.

Fix-It Tech
November 21 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the Social Hall

A community technology education event providing free computer hardware repair, education and tech support.

Have a Computer Question or Issue? If your computer or laptop is slow, not working, or seems to have a virus, bring it in for free tech support! Our volunteers will teach valuable repair skills, answer questions, and give technical advice about your device. Details & What to Bring: First come, first served. Labor will be FREE. Parts available to purchase. Bring your laptop, and/or desktop tower and power cord. Volunteers will help with smartphones and tablets based on capacity. Free Workshops and Resources Short sessions will cover basic computer maintenance and Internet safety. Pick up resources, learn about technology education programs and careers.

Steeple People needs you to volunteer!

Do you like to help people? Offer hospitality and service? Steeple People needs Customer Service volunteers for most shifts. You would work on the floor, helping customers, backing up the cashier, and straighten up the shelves .Working A few hours per week on a regular basis is what we need. World Jubilee Fair Trade Sale

College Care Package Donation Drive
Through November 22, 2015

We're sending care packages to college-age young adult members of the congregation just in time for finals week. Everyone can sign cards for these young people in Carlson Hall, donate shoe boxes/small boxes to mail, and donate supplies (ex: single-serve hot drink and soup packets, microwave popcorn, snacks, study supplies, cough drops, etc.). Winter Coat Drive
(plus hats, scarves, gloves, & mittens)
East Entry Until This Sunday

This is the time when we collect winter wear for our 'neighbors' who will have to survive the elements as they navigate the streets of our twin cities. Greatest demand is for male large sizes, so please bring in as many items as you can contribute. A collection Box is located in the East entry of the church building.  Our target for 2015 is 200 coats, so please raid those closets or hit those stores. The drive is scheduled to conclude on November 22nd!

Art & Spirit Retreat
November 20-22, 2015
 
This Art & Spirit retreat invites everyone to come away for a time, to be inspired and challenged, to explore your own artistic muse whatever that is. There will be singing, worship, time for long walks in the woods, time for laughter and getting to know new friends or reconnect with familiar faces.

The amazing Sara Thomsen will share her music and invite us into the songs of creativity. Darcy Ferrill will teach us the process of creating glass art through which our lights will shine.

Retreat begins with supper on Friday evening, November 20th and ends with lunch on Sunday morning, November 22. Cost for the retreat is $150.00 which includes lodging, all meals, snacks and materials. If you are able to include a few extra dollars to supplement those who can not pay the entire fee, you are invited to do so.

Christmas is Coming to Steeple People Thrift Store

Be sure to be in line at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 23 to get first chance at all our great decorations, trees, Christmas cards, stuffed animals, gifts and much more.  Check out our regular line of great used merchandise while you are there! You will be pleased at what you find.

Interfaith Thanksgiving Worship
November 26 at 10:00 AM in the Westminster Presbyterian Sanctuary
 
Join faith leaders and friends this Thanksgiving for a community-wide, interfaith worship service. The Rev. Peter Nycklemoe of Central Lutheran Church will preach, leading alongside other senior clergy members of the Minneapolis interfaith community. With prayer and music from different backgrounds, including the Native American tradition and voices from the Westminster Choir, we will give thanks for the tapestry of our shared community life.

Advent Concert Preview

Bill Mathis, Hennepin's Minister of Music, will give a presentation about the music to be performed at the Sanctuary Choir's Advent Concert. Learn about the background of the pieces and listening tips to aid your enjoyment of the Dec. 6 concert.

Hennepin Women's "Christmas Around the World!"
Saturday, December 12
 
Stop by Carlson Hall on Sunday to purchase your ticket to Hennepin's women's annual holiday event. Coming up Saturday, Dec. 12, our theme is Christmas Around the World! and features a special keynote about a new women's artisan cottage industry in Ghana, supported by Hennepin UMW, music by World Beat Connection, a special appearance by a group of children from Simpson, and a fab luncheon comprised of international foods. Tickets are $15 and available in Carlson Hall Nov 22, 29, and Dec 6.

Koinonia New Year's Retreat
December 31 - January 2

New Years at Koinonia is an annual event where friends of our Retreat Center say farewell to 2015, and welcome 2016 in the company of friends and relatives. It is for guests of all ages. Arrival is anytime after 3 p.m. on December 31st, and departure is after brunch on January 2nd.

Activities include: Hiking, ice-fishing and skating, sledding, shoe shoeing, cross country skiing, broomball, pond hockey, horse drawn wagon rides, board games, crafts, photography, labyrinth walk, optional side-trip to a nearby downhill ski resort (mark this on your registration form), movie night, time to read, nap and more!

99 Years and Counting

On October 22, 1916, our church building was dedicated. The Archives and History Committee has installed the first of several "99 Years and Counting" displays in its cabinet in Carlson Hall. The displays will feature highlights of church history as we complete our first century in our building. They will also be viewable at www.haumc.org/history

Young Adult Women's Bible Study
Tuesdays, 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM in the  Church of Youth Room 
Aimed at Young Adults, open to all. 

You are invited to this brand-new lay-led Bible study aimed at young adult women and open to women of all ages. Our group is filled with people who have done Bible study before and people who have never done it before - that means you are welcome, too! We're exploring a study called Namesake: When God Rewrites Your Story by Rev. Jessica LaGrone, a United Methodist pastor. Participant books are $10, scholarships are available. Sanct uary Flo wers Sign-up

One way we Hennepin Avenue UMC people share our joy, appreciation, and life moments is by providing flowers for the sanctuary worship service. Thank you flower donors in years past and welcome to you 2016 flower donors.

The flower calendar is in Carlson Hall ready for scheduling your donations. If you have a particular date you wish to observe with flowers, sign up early to have the most choices.

TheBoard and Staff of Koinonia Retreat Center extend to you our best wishes for a joyful Thanksgiving Holiday. We are profoundly grateful for your support this year as we have done our best to fulfill HAUMC's commitment to outdoor ministry. We couldn't do it without you!
