Leadership Introduction

Lyn Demaret, President/CEO
As I prepare to celebrate my eleven-year anniversary at River Cities United Way, I can honestly say we have made some major changes within our organization through the years with resources, volunteers and staff.

Our newest focus is on our 2020 goals to determine what needs we have right here in La Paz and Mohave County.   We are doing this by collaborating with companies, agencies and coalitions to drive change in our communities.

Our first focus is on Education with the goal to increase High School graduation rate from 74.6% to 80% by the year 2020.  Our partners to help us achieve that goal are Interagency Education Services, Arizona Youth Partnership,  Boys and Girls Club of Kingman, Kingman Aid to Abused People, NAU Civic Center Institute, K-12 Foundation, Interagency Big Brothers Big Sisters, Interagency Youth Intervention Services and New Horizons.  We aim to affect change within our own area and increase the number of kids ready to face the world with a high school diploma in hand.

For more information on our goals, please stay tuned for next month's newsletter.

Next Meeting:
Tuesday, June 21st at 11:30 AM to 1 PM
Joshua Springs Senior Living Community
2995 Desert Sky Blvd.
Bullhead City, AZ 86442

The La Paz Mohave Oral Health Coalition will be moving forward with the target of implementing an oral health awareness curriculum in all of the elementary schools throughout Mohave County. Thank you to those that were able to attend and to those who were not able to please plan to join us for our next meeting . Lunch will be included. At the meeting we will be reviewing the minutes of the prior meeting, discussing outreach for new members, and brainstorming on the final details of Kindergarten/Pre-K school curriculum that will be presented for approval in August before the County Superintendent.

We are leading the "La Paz / Mohave Oral Health Coalition" because River Cities United Way started moving towards a Community Impact Model United Way (focused on long-term lasting changes in the communities served rather than just funding immediate needs). This allows our organization to develop new public discussions, impact causes rather than fund temporary needs, and grow the capacity of support for the individuals in the communities served.

River Cities United Way is an Arizona Tax Credit  Qualifying Charitable Organization
(formerly known as the "Working Poor Tax Credit")

The Arizona Credit for Donations made to Qualifying Charitable Organizations (QCO) program allows your tax dollars to be used locally in support of Mohave and La Paz County residents, your donation provides the means to increase their self-sufficiency.

River Cities United Way is an umbrella organization, per the Arizona Department of Revenue, which will distribute 100% of monies donated to Qualified Charitable Organizations, certified by the Department of Revenue. Arizona Revised Statute §43-1088 provides a non-refundable income tax credit for donations made to qualifying charitable organizations, commonly known as "Credit for Donations made to Qualifying Charitable Organizations."

A new law signed by the Arizona Governor, May 6, 2016, increases the maximum credit for contributions made to River Cities United Way through the QCO tax credit program, to four hundred dollars ($400) for single and eight hundred dollars ($800) for married taxpayers.
