Pastor Berg's Message
I recently shared with a group of folks that I can tell when I have let my prayer life slip to the background. I can tell because I can feel that I am out of sorts, not as focused on my day, I can tell that something is just not right. And if this goes on for a while life can become discombobulated.

In Acts we read that the leaders of the church dedicated themselves to two things: prayer and preaching the Gospel. It would seem that these two things go together. For followers of Christ there is encouragement to take on a disciplined prayer life as well. Jesus modeled this for us often - taking time even amidst the busyness of life to go off by himself and pray. Luther is quoted as saying, "The busier my life becomes, the more time I set aside for prayer," or something like that.

Love in a Time of Fear:
Christians and Muslims as Neighbors
What would happen if Muslims and Christians did what our respective founders invited us to do: be neighbors? In a time of fear, when Muslims are often scapegoated and stereotyped, Christians and Muslims are joining together for love in a time of fear. Love doesn't mean only having warm feelings, but actively working for the well-being of your neighbor as they work for yours. Please join us for events around the Puget Sound, reach out to our Muslim and Christian neighbors, and encourage work together for our mutual well-being.
Sunday, March 6 , 6 pm at Holy Spirit, Kirkland

Roger Steinke's Notes

Many, Many Thanks
to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2015 Youth Auction!  We raised over $25,000  - the most money ever raised at a First Lutheran Youth Auction!  Fergus Prestbye once again did an outstanding job as our auctioneer. The over 155 people in attendance enjoyed a wonderful and entertaining evening!  To the over 35 youth and adults who helped with this year's auction, thank you again for all of your hard work and efforts!
We are richly blessed to have such a strong response from the congregation.  The generosity and support to the Children's and Youth Ministries is truly amazing and extremely gratifying!
I thank my God every time I remember you.  In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the Gospel, from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion, until the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:3-6
Again, many, many thanks for all of your help and support!
With JOY in Christ,
Roger

Bell Tower Update
In 1907, three years before women in Washington state had the right to vote, our congregation purchased a bell that had been cast at the National Bell Foundry Company in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Our parish records carry the minutes of the congregational meeting from 108 years ago, on 12 January 1908: "Kirkeklokken som var en gave af nogle enkelte her omkring havde kostet $52.50 og alt var betalt."  The rather old-fashioned Norwegian hand translates as "The church bell which was a gift of a few individuals in the area had cost $52.50 and everything was paid."  The parish accounts, in a separate ledger book, list by name the eight contributors, each giving from $5 to $10.  Among the contributors were the pastor, Peter Blicher, who was here for only two years (1906-1908) before going back to the Dakotas, and the purveyor of the bell, the Polson Supply Company of Seattle.
