Saint Louis Science Center Set to Celebrate the Grand Opening of GROW

Telling the Story of Agriculture Through the New Interactive Exhibit
COLUMBIA, MISSOURI - The Saint Louis Science Center is set to officially open the new ag exhibit, GROW, Saturday, June 18th. The exhibit brings the story of agriculture to the Saint Louis Science Centers more than one million annual visitors through interactive exhibits, demonstrations, and educational events. GROW is a permanent exhibit, and the first of its kind in the United States to focus solely on agriculture. The Science Center's first major expansion since 1991, GROW will provide an opportunity for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of where their food comes from, the role each of us plays in the stewardship of our food supply through immersive and hands-on activities, the science behind agriculture and the dedication of farmers and ranchers to providing a high quality, nutritious, delicious, and reliable food supply.

The Missouri Beef Industry Council Board of producers and industry partners realized the potential and importance of this new agriculture exhibit in one of the regions largest urban areas and made the decision to contribute to the development of the exhibit. Through Checkoff dollars and resources, MBIC was able to assist the Science Center in developing an educational opportunity for visitors to learn about the beef industry from pasture to plate.

"Partnering with the St. Louis Science Center is an exciting venture." said Mark Russell, Executive Director of the Missouri Beef Industry Council.  "We have been actively assisting the staff at the Science Center in getting accurate and factual information to them during the development phase.  We believe the GROW exhibit will become a destination for rural and urban neighbors seeking out the truth about agriculture and food production".

There are numerous agricultural organizations and businesses that contributed to the development of this new exhibit. The partnership between the agricultural industry and the Saint Louis Science Center is evident throughout the exhibits interactive educational displays.

Admission to GROW is free, with some paid programming and activities available. For more information about GROW, visit slsc.org/GROW
About the Missouri Beef Industry Council:
The Missouri Beef Council is a nonprofit organization responsible for administering programs of promotion, education, research, and consumer and industry information.  The MBIC is part of a coordinated state/national effort funded and controlled by beef producers who are assessed $1 per head each time a beef animal is sold.  Half of each dollar is forwarded to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) and the other half of the dollar is retained by the Missouri Beef Industry Council to fund state-based programs that complement and extend the industry wide effort to promote beef. Find more information at www.mobeef.org

About The Beef Checkoff: The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
