Message from the CEO
Mark your calendars: Literacy is Life is Coming!

The month of September, 2016 marks our third annual Literacy is Life campaign. Literacy is Life is  our largest fundraising and awareness campaign with activities taking place throughout the month, highlighted by flag raisings and proclamations at city halls across the province on September 8th - UNESCO International Literacy Day. Please show your support and get involved!

Stay tuned on our web and social media channels for announcements about our Literacy is Life Flag Raising at Vancouver City Hall, and our exciting online contest!

I'd like to announce the well-deserved retirement of a dear colleague at Decoda Literacy - more details in my message to you, which can be accessed by clicking the link below.

Meet a Learner: Nasib
"[Because] I can read now, I can start right."

Canada gives many newcomers a chance to get a fresh start. Growing up in the Fiji Islands, Nasib didn't have opportunities to go to school due to family obligations.

When she moved to Canada, however, she finally had a chance to achieve a lifelong desire - to learn how to read. Nasib's first step was attending reading groups at the Joyce-Collingwood Neighbourhood House.

Closing social gaps and creating change in Princeton
Community group helps connect isolated seniors

Question: how do you connect isolated seniors who feel like they're being left behind as information technology becomes more and more necessary?

Answer: through community literacy programs!

Read about how  Princeton Leaders for Literacy helped to create a new program to meet a great literacy need in their community - to connect local seniors to the modern world and to reconnect them to their loved ones.
