Launching Phase Two of SUMA's Provincial Election Advocacy Campaign
With the 2016 provincial election officially being called in the next week, SUMA is ready to launch phase two of our Provincial Election Advocacy Campaign.

During the 2016 provincial election, SUMA is calling on all provincial parties to present platforms that commit to:
  • a permanent municipal revenue sharing agreement; and
  • a Made-in-Saskatchewan infrastructure program that is permanent, long-term, sustainable, and predictable.
We are focusing on two key issues:
  1. Municipal Revenue Sharing (funding for operational expenses)
  2. Infrastructure Funding (funding for capital expenses)
On February 4, 2016 we launched the first phase of our campaign on social media. For the next five weeks, we have a base of information and background to set the stage for Phase two of our campaign, which includes a public push through paid media.

An important new tool is a 30-second commercial we have created specifically for this part of the campaign to highlight the role municipalities play in our day-to-day lives. It will air on television and online, and we will post it on all our social media channels. You can watch the commercial on our YouTube page beginning March 4. Please share it as you see fit.

Phase two of our advocacy campaign includes:
  • Television ads: CTV Regina, CTV Saskatoon, CFCN, CFRN, CFQC, CKCK, CIPA, CICC, CIVT, and Global Saskatoon
  • Online ads: Facebook and Google ads
  • Social media: We will continue providing education and background information on Facebook and Twitter, while using YouTube with the new commercial.
  • Online hub: Our website will continue to house all relevant campaign tools and information. Check the online hub often for updates, new tools and news articles.
How You Can Get Involved
SUMA has been working hard to prepare the tools to advocate for our cities, towns, villages, resort villages, and northern municipalities that provide core services to communities every day. In addition to the backgrounder and info card we introduced at Convention earlier this year, we have developed templates for letters to the editor, and to local candidates. Again, these tools are all available through our 2016 Provincial Election Advocacy Hub.

We appreciate your engagement so far and encourage you to continue to share our content and messages from now until election day on Monday, April 4, 2016. If you haven't already, please like our Facebook page, and follow us on Twitter, and YouTube to keep up-to-date with our campaign. Over the next five weeks, we will continue to post content on our key issues in an effort to inform voters about what matters to their hometowns during this election. We will also continue to share relevant news articles and content from other groups where appropriate.

By sharing and retweeting our content, you are amplifying our voice about how important urban municipalities are to their residents - more than 77 per cent of Saskatchewan's population - and the importance of a provincial government that supports our urban municipalities. We urge you to share the video from our YouTube page and use your own channels and platforms to raise awareness of what municipal support looks like in your community.

Please tag SUMA and use hashtags where applicable:

Promoting, protecting, and defending our members' interests is a huge part of SUMA's work, and we couldn't do it without your ongoing support. We thank you in advance for helping us get the word out through your own social media channels, in local media, and by engaging with your local candidates.
