What Do Super Heroes Eat?

Fresh spinach, not the canned stuff that my mother fed me 40 years ago. We'll be picking spinach by April 24, so I propose we hold a special spinach feast for everyone who runs the Super Hero 5K. I'll get the ball rolling by committing myself to run --  in the old guys' heat. Who wants to run with the not-yet-senior-citizens? How about a Super Hero Couples Challenge?

The first five people to commit get to choose the team hero.

Email [email protected] and I'll add you to the list.

Reminder: Great Country Farms serves on the committee that oversees Loudoun County's annual Healthy Business Challenge, which is an initiative aimed at improving workplace wellness by developing guidelines for keeping people healthy and by honoring businesses that are good at doing so. The culminating event for this initiative is a 5K run at Bolen Park in Leesburg, with a Super Hero theme -- meaning runners are encouraged to dress as comic book characters.

We'd like to extend our involvement in this initiative from the committee room to the race course, so we're putting together a GCF Super Hero team, complete with tee shirts appropriate to whatever hero we decide to be. So if you like to run, or wear strange costumes, or support good causes, email [email protected] and I'll add you to the team list. The race is scheduled for April 24 at 8:30 a.m. We'll cover the entrance fee. All proceeds benefit Boulder Crest Retreat.

Goat Cheese
Georges Mill Farm will be delivering cheese CSA shares to GCF again this year. You can try their fresh chevre and their bloomy rinds at the vineyard, and then you can buy a share for yourself through our new digital shopping cart.

CSA Discount

We're offering CSA shares to staff members at a 25% discount again this year, so if you want to take home a full box every week, go to the CSA Produce Membership page on our website and click the squash-colored Purchase button. After you get through the portal, choose the membership type called Farm Pick-up Pack Your Own, and when you get to the screen that asks if you have any questions or comments, write "I'm a GCF employee," and I'll reduce your installments by 25%. The CSA season starts June 7 and continues through October 21.
