Community of Stories: A Creative Writing Experience
March 12 & 13
10:00 am - 3:00 pm
This two-day, free writing workshop at School for Creative & Performing Arts (SCPA) will provide participants with introduction to a variety of writing activities, after which participants will be given time to write, reflect, and share in small writing circles, led by experienced writing mentors. This event is open to community members, high school students, and teachers and is an opportunity for print publication in "Community of Stories Literary Journal."

V-DAY Reflections,

On Friday, February 12th, approximately 100 supporters attended the 4th Annual V-Day event at Women Writing for (a) Change.
Founded in 1998 by Eve Ensler, playwright, performer, activist and author of The Vagina Monologues, V-Day is a global creative movement to increase awareness of gender-based violence. V-Day stages large-scale benefits and produces innovative gatherings, films, and campaigns to educate and change social attitudes towards violence against women.
Worldwide, the V-Day movement has raised over $100 million for education about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it; crafted international educational, media, and PSA campaigns; reopened shelters; and funded over 13,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses.
Last year, women in our Cincinnati writing community read pieces from "The Vagina Monologues." This year, I was honored
to be among the twenty-two courageous women who shared in prose and poetry their personal experiences. The accounts of abuse, rape and sexual discovery were poignant and deeply moving. Interspersed with lighter pieces, the readings provided a full range of emotions, bringing the audience to tears as well as much appreciated laughter.
Poet and WWf(a)C facilitator Laurie Lambert
organized and directed the event, titled "Hometown Monologues: Voices from our Village". This year our V-Day event brought in close to $2000. All proceeds from this event support local programs for women who have suffered domestic violence.

In celebration of our 25th anniversary, WWf(a)C will be publishing an anthology of our writers' works! As a first step, we are calling for women who would like to be part of the editorial process. If you would like to read a portion of the submissions and help in the selection of works to be part of the printed edition,

[email protected]. This is an opportunity to read the works of different members of our community you might not have previously encountered. Writers who are not published in the print edition will have their works published in our upcoming online magazine. And to answer the most asked question: Yes, if you are a reader, you may still submit your work for inclusion in the anthology!

Meaningful Mondays Continues

Once again, Meaningful Mondays: Women Poets in the Courtyard returns to Arnold's Bar and Grill
, downtown Cincinnati. Four poets from the WWf(a)C community read their original works beneath the city lights in this famed courtyard.
