Director of Natural Science Leaving

Andrew Mckenna-Foster, Director of Natural Science, will be leaving his position in September 2016, to further pursue his academic career; a search for his replacement has begun.

According to MMA Board President, John Daniels: "Andrew is like the poster-child of our organization: someone who came here as a science intern during his college years, was inspired by science research and education, came to work for us full-time after he earned his Master's degree in environmental science and policy, and left his imprint on hundreds of Nantucket students and visitors.  For me he is like the Pied Piper of Nantucket's natural world, and he has made a huge contribution to the MMA.  At the same time, all of us on the MMA Board have been aware for several years that to continue to hold Andrew back from progressing in his academic career would be doing him a disservice, and we are extremely pleased that he will finally be able to take the next step in building his academic credentials."

Mckenna-Foster says his upcoming departure is bittersweet. "My time at the MMA has been more interesting, more exciting, and more nurturing than anything I could have imagined. However, to continue my career, it's necessary for me to go back to school and gain new experience." Andrew has been planning this transition for almost two years.

Moons and Monsoons

Enjoy a morning of "Moons and Monsoons" at the Hinchman House Natural Science Museum. Each week we will highlight a different planet or celestial body that has things in common with earth such as volcanoes, high winds, freezing temperatures and more. This program is designed for 3.5-6 year olds with an adult. As always, our preschool family programs will include a short activity or story followed by a craft to take home.
