New Sculpture "Larm" Installed at Burton Place Park on Wells Street
The Old Town Merchants & Resident Association continued its support of the public arts this year with the installation of
Jack Howard Potter's "Larm" at the entrance to Burton Place Park on Wells Street.
The sculpture is
one of 30 installed in various neighborhoods across the City of Chicago. The project is done annually through
Chicago Sculpture Exhibit, started by former alderman Vi Daley and continued today with the support of
44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney.
"Larm" was an attempt by sculptor Jack Howard-Potter to "capture the movement of the human figure through a medium that does not move." Using galvanized, powder-coated steel, the combination of an upright figure and a brightly-colored ribbon or scarf creates a sense of movement whether you're passing by or standing still.
This sculpture will remain at its present location through Spring 2016, at which time a new sculpture will be installed. If interested in purchasing the sculpture -- or any of those installed as part of Chicago Sculpture Exhibit -- please
call 312.772.2872.
