Tonight! Venice Neighborhood Council Election Mixer
|
CANDIDATE FILING IS NOW OPEN!!!!!!!!
There is a candidate recruitment mixer Thursday, 25 Feb 2016, at the Canal Club, corner N Venice Blvd and Pacific Av, 6:30 p - 8:30 p. You will be able to file your candidacy right there.
Or you can sign up to run for one of the Board Offices this minute - go to
Not sure what office to run for? How about Chair of the Land Use and Planning Committee?
The Land Use Planning Committee (LUPC) shall review, take public input, report on and make recommendations of actions to the Board of Officers on any land use and planning issues affecting the community. With the vast number of new buildings, remodels, change of use, there is never a lack of projects to investigate and evaluate.
The Chair of the Land Use Planning Committee:
- Chairs the Land Use and Planning Committee
- Is responsible for preparation and submission of all required reports to the Board of Officers
That is the official description of the responsibilities of the chair and the committee. Omitted is the fact that visits to City Hall, City Planning, sometimes the Coastal Commission are also part of the job. The chair also needs to be at Administrative Committee meetings to explain the projects and assist estimating how much time each case will take. Also, chairing the LUPC includes assigning projects to members for investigation and deciding the best way to do this. And, as with any committee, there is the usual oversight of members, to make sure projects are investigated and reports written in a timely manner. Successful decisions on land use make it all worthwhile.
In a Venice Neighborhood Council (VNC) election, the candidate for Chair of the Land Use Planning Committee (LUPC) who receives the most votes wins . Only people who live, work, or own property within the VNC area may vote for this Board Office.

CM Bonin on Big Blue Bus Major Service Changes
|
I have been copied on a tremendous amount of email to the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus Company regarding upcoming changes in service. I want to assure you I am listening, and want to make sure Big Blue is listening, too.
Many of you have expressed great frustration with the elimination of service on certain streets, while others have objected to plans for new service to travel down the street you live on. Pretty much everyone expressed concerns about the outreach that had been done about the changes.

Help Fix Venice Sidewalks - Walking Survey
|
Want to help fix the sidewalks in Venice? A truck is scheduled to be in Venice on 3/24/2016 to do small repairs to our sidewalks. Your VNC Neighborhood Committee needs help to identify the repairs.
And we'd like your help!!
We'll be walking our neighborhoods over the next several weeks to identify mis-aligned sidewalk sections that can be repaired with a ramp from the lower section to the higher.
Will you help us with our survey?

In a move that could create much-needed affordable housing in Venice, Councilmember Mike Bonin recently proposed building housing on the site of a controversial Metro bus yard that closed last month. In his capacity as a member of the Board of Directors of LA County Metro, the region's transportation agency,
CM Bonin succeeded in shutting the bus yard and making sure it would not to be sold to the highest bidder for use as office or commercial space.
