Subscription Revenue Could Hit $3 Billion by 2020.

This Event is Sold Out.

In this Session, we will read the tea leaves on the future of music industry revenue.

The RIAA recently released their 2015 revenue report, which indicates that on-demand subscription music generates 18 times the ARPU of on-demand Ad-supported music. It is crucial to focus on the attention business and how people spend money on music.

There will be seven significant music usage revenue categories for the next decade.

  • On-Demand Subscription
  • Digital Download Sales
  • Physical Music Sales
  • Programmed digital music streaming (SoundExchange/Statutory and Apple Radio/licensed)
  • On-Demand Ad-Supported
  • Synchronization
  • Programmed Ad-Supported terrestrial streaming (AM/FM Music Radio)

How these seven music usage categories drive music value to its highest potential will determine the future of the music business. Beer, Wine, and Light refreshments will be served.

Takeaways: Converting RIAA's numbers to meaningful impact on the music industry. 15-Year projections of Subscription Music. ARPU, Retail v. Wholesale, Gross vs. Net. With an eye on music value and the music users, we can drive music value well beyond its 1999 peak. Find out how.

Notes for the panel: U.S.: 114 million on-demand ad-supported users, 52 million physical music buyers, 42 million digital download buyers, 10.8 million music subscribers, and 210 million ad-supported programmed music (AM/FM Radio) that pay nothing to record labels for their music use.
