FEBRUARY 2016

NOTES

BY THE NUMBERS: Q4 2015 IMPACT

We've found great news in our newly compiled 2015 Q4 metrics.  As 2015 came to a close, CincyTech portfolio companies had created and retained 826 jobs, at an average salary of $77,500. This jobs number represents a gain of nearly 200 over the course of a single year; at the end of 2014, our portfolio companies had created and retained 629 jobs, at an average salary of $62,700.
Creating well-paying jobs is part of CincyTech's core mission in southwest Ohio, in alignment with that of our partner at the state level, Ohio Third Frontier.
Another metric worth sharing: by the end of Q4 2015, CincyTech's portfolio companies had raised $551.6M in co- and follow-on investment, to $25.5M invested by CincyTech.

DIVERSITY IN TECHNOLOGY

February is Black History Month, which has given rise to discussions and articles about diversity, or a lack of it,  in the technology sector.
Three CincyTech portfolio company CEO's recently appeared on panels in major cities. LISNR's Rodney Williams (above left) and BlackbookHR's Chris Powell were speakers at Black Tech Week in Miami.  Rod Robinson (above right) of ConnXus was featured in AOL BUILD's "Black Tech Leaders: Past, Present and Future" panel discussion in New York City.
ConnXus helps Fortune 1000 companies, including McDonald's Corporation and The Coca-cola Company diversify their supply chain by connecting them with woman- and minority-owned small businesses. Robinson said his clients and other corporations have come to view a diverse supply chain as a strategic imperative, and a way to gain valuable insights.
Robinson is aware he's in a position to be an example to aspiring entrepreneurs of color.  "I think the biggest thing I can do to contribute is to be successful.  Having this success is critical, because some of the young kids can see it and say if Rod can do it and Rodney can do it, maybe I can do it."

...AND IN CINCYTECH'S PORTFOLIO

As noted in our most recent Annual Report and a recent news article in the Cincinnati Enquirer,
CincyTech's portfolio is more inclusive than the national norm.  As of late last year, 21 percent of companies in our portfolio were either founded or led by women or minorities.  Nationally, fewer than 6 percent of venture-backed companies have been founded by women and only 1 percent are led by African Americans.
