From the Editor's Desk

In this edition of our monthly e-newsletter, New York restricts employers from using Credit Reports. Last week Mayor de Blasio signed legislation (NYC Int. 0261-A-2014), that amends the NYC Human Rights Law which states ?make it unlawful? discriminatory practice for employers to request or consider the credit history of a prospective or current employee when making employment decisions?.

A federal judge in the Northern District of California dismissed a case brought by four plaintiffs last fall which claimed that social networking website LinkedIn was operating as a consumer reporting agency.

Finally, our tip of the month focuses on employers incorporating education verification as part of their employment background screening process.

Please forward our e-newsletter to friends and colleagues who may benefit from our published information.

Sincerely,

e-sig
