CHIA President's Message
Volunteer Opportunities - Create New Connections
Message from CHIA President Deborah Collier, RHIA

CHIA strives to offer volunteer roles to as many members as possible and committee appointments are being sought for next year. Have you  thought about volunteering? Some of the valuable benefits include
  • Enhance leadership skills,
  • Develop new connections,
  • Gain new experiences, and
  • Establish lasting personal and professional relationships

An underlying theme of volunteering is "networking." Networking presents the opportunity to share and learn "best practices" or new ideas, interact with key leaders in our profession, and meet and brainstorm with others who also desire to share and learn new information.

CHIA relies on our valued members (YOU) to help us make a world of difference in HIM. Participating on one of the CHIA Committees is a great way to volunteer. Most meetings are monthly 1-hour webinars or calls. For only 2-3 hours of your time a month, YOU can make a difference as a CHIA volunteer.

Submit the Volunteer Questionnaire form to let us know how you would like to participate and get involved today!

ONC's Real HIPAA Blog Series
The Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) has begun a blog series of fact sheets and information about HIPAA that aims to dispel misconceptions about HIPAA and its affect on interoperability. "What many people don't realize," write Lucia Savage, JD, chief privacy officer, and Aja Broosk, JD, privacy analyst for ONC, "is that HIPAA not only protects personal health information from misuse, but also enables that personal health information to be accessed, used, or disclosed interoperably, when and where it is needed for patient care."
