IRS 2016 Mileage Rate
Many pastors and staff drive their personal vehicles for church-related business, such as visitations or special events.  The IRS recently announced the new standard mileage rates for 2016. Effective Jan. 1, 2016, the standard mileage rate will be:
54 cents per mile for business miles;  19 cents  per mile driven for medical or moving purposes; and,  14  cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations.

Some may remember the Presbyterian Youth Triennium - a gathering of thousands of young people from presbyteries across the nation - as a decisive moment in their spiritual journey.  Triennium is a wonderful event where students engage in worship, small groups, and recreation as they grow deeper in their faith. This year's Triennium will take place Jul 19-23 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.

The theme of the 2016 Presbyterian Youth Triennium is simply defined in one word: "GO," said Gina Yeager-Buckley, Triennium director and associate for   Ministries with Youth  in the   Presbyterian Mission Agency. "We felt God leading us to help some 5,000 young people take their next steps of faith. To focus not on the event itself, which we like to call 'the greatest five days,' but on what happens to them after the Triennium, as they 'GO' back into the world,"

Yeager-Buckley explained. This theme will be explored through the stories of Scripture, including:
  • The shepherds in Luke 2:8-30 who were terrified when the angel told them to "GO and see" the savior who had been born,
  • The lawyer in Luke 10:25-37 who was encouraged by Jesus to "GO and do likewise," in the parable of the Good Samaritan,
  • King David in Psalm 32 confessing his failures, and then knowing the joy of God's forgiveness, he discerns and is taught "the Way I Should GO,"
  • Moses in Exodus 3-7 (which means "to go") advocating for justice again and again- demanding Pharaoh, who held the Israelites captive in slavery, to "Let My People G0,"
  • And the disciples in Matthew 28:16-20.  Even as some doubted what they had seen regarding the resurrection, Jesus came to them on the mountain commanding that they be a part of "God's great GO-mission" -of GOing into the world and making disciples.
The Presbytery of Baltimore is excited to send a delegation of youth and adults to Triennium next summer. Registration is open to high school aged youth (rising freshman through graduated seniors in the summer of 2016). Adults 25 and older can be part of our delegation as an adult advisor, or can serve as a small group leader. To be considered as an adult advisor, please contact Joel Strom (link). If you want to be a Small Group Leader, you must apply through the Triennium website. Young adults, ages 19-24, can apply to be a part of work crew through the denomination. Our delegation, led by TE Joel Strom (Towson), will depart from the Baltimore area on Monday, July 18, and enjoy time together in dorms and reflection groups throughout the week. Transportation is provided by the Presbytery via chartered bus. To be a part of the Presbytery of Baltimore's delegation, you must register through our Triennium Registrar, Virginia Callegary (DCE, First Howard County).

The deadline for the trip deposit of $200 is due  January 20, 2016 - although registrations will be accepted until the bus has been filled.
