 Purchase your tickets here to the sixth annual Saint Vincent Seminary Mardi Gras celebration now. Tickets are $75 per person, or $550 for a table. If you would like to contribute a raffle basket please email Lisa Poole. The event is Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at the Fred M. Rogers Center. 

Easter Ball Scheduled for 2016
Alumni Council President James Laffey, C'75, and Easter Ball Committee chair Ryan Retter, C'08, have announced that the date for the next Fr. Gilbert Burke Easter Ball will be Saturday, April 2, 2016. The 2016 Easter Ball will be held at the Fred M. Rogers Center at Saint Vincent. Alumni of the Prep, College and Seminary and friends of Saint Vincent are all invited to the Easter Ball, the main social event and fundraiser sponsored by Alumni Council. Proceeds benefit the Fr. Gilbert J. Burke Memorial Scholarship. Alumni Council is looking for volunteers for the event, table captains to encourage participation by classes and schools and sponsors. For more information about the event or to volunteer, contact the Alumni Office.

President of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Tells SVC Grads: 'Be a Top Performer' 
Christopher A. Gessner, president of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, shared with Saint Vincent College's December graduates on Dec. 19 what he has learned about how people rise to the top of their fields by being top performers. Twelve Students Receive First DNAP Degrees at December Commencement
Twelve doctoral candidates were in the first class of graduates of the professional graduate education doctoral completion program that awarded the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) degree at Saint Vincent College's 11th annual December Commencement on Dec. 19 in the program jointly offered by Excela Health School of Anesthesia and Saint Vincent College.

The program, one of the first in the country and one of only a handful in the United States to accommodate the needs of working nurse anesthetists, prepares Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists to earn a DNAP and become leaders in this rapidly developing field of health care. The program is directed by Dr. Michael DeBroeck. Read More.
Crafting for Care
An interest in learning more about crafts, and in expanding her volunteer efforts led a Saint Vincent College student to start a new club combining those goals.  
 
Teresa Bukowski, 21, a senior biology major, established Crafting for Care this fall. The club meets each Monday evening and has attracted students and faculty. A typical gathering results in about 10 people, most knitting or crocheting Read More in TribLive.
Saint Vincent Basilica Parish Celebrates 225 Years
From modest beginnings as a simple log structure to its current status as the centerpiece of the Sainy Vincent College campus, the Saint Vincent Basilica Parish is in the midst of a 225th anniversary celebration.  Read More in TribLive.
Saint Vincent College Launches Green Initiatives
Realizing the large number of students toting plastic water bottles and paper cups through Saint Vincent College's Robert S. Carey Student Center helped members of the school's student government association decide where next to focus their efforts. The group purchased two water bottle refill stations - one for outside the center's gymnasium last spring and another this fall near its fitness facility. Read More in Post-Gazette.

SVC Plans Observance Jan. 18 to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A day-long observance on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, featuring a memorial Mass, dream center, dinner and guest speaker are planned at Saint Vincent College on national Martin Luther King Jr. Day to memorialize the late civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1968. All events except the evening program, which includes dinner, are free and open to the public. Tickets for the evening program are required for entry and can be obtained or reserved at the Campus Life Office in the Robert S. Carey Student Center during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

SVC Reports Another Successful Year in Annual Report for 2014-15
"The Heart of Saint Vincent" is the theme of the Saint Vincent College President's Report for the fiscal year 2014-15, which overviews another successful year at the Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts and sciences college which experienced growth in all facets of its operation and development. "People are the heart of Saint Vincent College," commented Br. Norman W. Hipps, O.S.B., now in his sixth year as president of the 169-year-old private college. "Members of the board of directors, faculty, students, staff, alumni and parents have all shown their heart and their support for the heart of Saint Vincent through their donations to the  Annual Fund for Students First  which has exceeded its ambitious goals for three years, and received more than $929,000, well over its goal for the year."  Read More.
Philosophy Professor Delivers Paper 
Dr. Gene Torisky, associate professor of   philosophy  in Saint Vincent College's   School of Humanities and Fine Arts, presented a paper, "Not a 'Feeling,' But a Perceived Mystery: Martin Buber on Education and Emotion," at the Redemption of Feeling: The Religious Existentialists Conference hosted by the Philosophy Department of Queens College of the City University of New York in New York City on Dec. 3 and 4.   Read More.
SVC/Pitt Named 'Outstanding Global Confucius Institute' for Fourth Time
The   Confucius Institute of the University of Pittsburgh  (CI-Pitt), of which Saint Vincent College is an affiliate, was honored as the Outstanding Global Confucius Institute for the fourth time at the 10th Conference of Confucius Institutes held in Shanghai, China, July 6 and 7. Saint Vincent College hosts the Chinese Director of CI-Pitt, Dr. Angela Xiao, who is a visiting professor of   Chinese language and culture. Saint Vincent is also home to the first University of Pittsburgh Confucius Classroom which is directed by associate professor of   history, Dr. Tina Phillips Johnson. The Institute was one of only 20 to receive recognition of the 500 Institutes located in 134 countries, and has won more awards than any other Confucius Institute worldwide. The Institute was previously honored in 2008, 2010 and 2013.   Read More.

The Community Meal, provides a healthy meal and a loving community to individuals and families in need of food and company.
